Thursday, January 5th, finds the LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets playing the second of four scheduled meetings. LA will host again on January 13th while Denver will host the final meeting on February 26th.
Both teams last played on Monday with the Nuggets losing 111-124 to a desperate Wolves squad while the Clippers lost 100-110 to the Heat.
Last season, the teams played on four occasions with the Nuggets taking three of the four contests. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 102 of their 185 matches.

What’s up with the numerous hamstring injuries this season? Am I wrong or does it seem like there is an uptick in strained hammies this season?
Add Paul George to the list of those hampered by a sore hammy. With PG tweaking the hamstring, the timing sucks given Kawhi Leonard and PG were finally both healthy and starting to string together some wins and the team was starting to build chemistry.
Since PG already missed games earlier this season with a hamstring issue they’ll want to be careful about rushing him back.
After winning seven of nine the Clippers have stumbled slightly losing three games in a row.
As for the statistics – It’s two ends of the spectrum through 39 games for the Clippers. Offensively they struggle averaging 109.5 points per game which ranks 28th while they shoot 46.6% from the field and 37.6% from deep ranking 21st and sixth respectively.
In contrast, defensively, the Clippers are impressive ranking in the top five in all three major categories. LA allows the fourth-fewest points per game at 109.4 while ranking fifth for opponent field goal shooting at 45.7% and 34.0% from the perimeter ranking fourth.
Paul George (hamstring) and Kawhi Leonard (knee) are questionable.
Denver Nuggets
On the season Nikola Jokic is averaging a double-double of 25.6 points and 10.8 rebounds (2.0 offensive boards) as well as 9.5 assists and 1.4 steals.
His production Monday was slightly lower but the team was playing a back-to-back facing a team who was about as desperate as they’ve been all season (Wolves).
He led the Nuggets with 24 points, seven rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. All five starters reached double-digit scoring plus Bones Hyland but didn’t have enough in the tank to challenge the do-or-die Wolves’ effort.
Denver ranks sixth in scoring averaging 116.4 points per game, second in proficiency from the field: 50.8%, and possesses the best perimeter efficiency shooting 39.8%.
On the season, Denver ranks 17th for opponent scoring allowing 114.5 points per game, while foes shoot 48.6% from the field and 36.3% from the perimeter ranking 26th and 22nd overall.
Jeff Green (left finger sprain/hand fracture) and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.
