Tuesday, January 31st, the LA Clippers and Chicago Bulls are playing the first of two scheduled meetings. LA will host the second meeting on March 27th.
The Clippers last played Sunday getting thumped 92-122 by the Cavaliers while the Bulls played Saturday losing to the Magic.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Bulls winning both contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 68 of their 123 matches.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Monday evening, January 30th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Tuesday, January 31st.
LA Clippers
Apparently, nothing inspires the Clippers to push through situations not even five-game winning streaks as they elected to rest superstar Kawhi Leonard along with Paul George and the five other regular contributors who sat.
The bigger question is how many of those players are just dealing with typical bumps and bruises and how many are legitimate injuries where the players would sit if they played for a team other than the Clippers.

Yet again, the Cavaliers were the benefactors of this phenomenon that has witnessed them collect nine of their 14 wins versus winning teams who were missing their top player (7x) and on eight of the nine occasions had multiple starters out (Middleton was only key player out in one).
LA sure doesn’t seem worried they are taking this approach but you have to wonder if at some point in the playoffs if their players will be able to perform every other day because they sure haven’t shown they can do it in the regular season.
It’s not just Leonard (26) and George (17) who’ve missed double-digit games already. In fact, of their top 13 contributors, eight have missed double-figure contests (between 10 and 26 games).
Stats
On the negative side, presently, LA ranks 28th for scoring averaging 110.7 points per game while shooting 47.0% from the field and 37.9% from the perimeter ranking 19th and sixth respectively.
Opponents average 110.7 points per game ranking third lowest overall while allowing opponents to shoot 47.0% from the field and 35.5% from the perimeter ranking eighth and 10th respectively.
At this point, Paul George (knee), Reggie Jackson (Achilles), Marcus Morris Sr. (rib contusion), and Robert Covington (personal) are questionable while John Wall (abdominal) is out indefinitely.
Chicago Bulls
With the trade deadline rapidly approaching the Bulls are one of the teams that are in the spotlight.
Chicago enters week 16th of the schedule, three games below .500 sporting a 12-15 record versus winning teams, 4-1 against .500 teams (Hawks, Jazz), and 7-10 versus the teams with losing records.
Ultimately, the Bulls’ front office has decisions to make on whether they make roster tweaks to improve versus reformate or the least likely option of blowing it up to start fresh (especially since they just did that two years ago).
Stats
Chicago scores 114.5 points per game ranking 14th while they shoot 48.9% from the field and 36.6% from the perimeter ranking fifth and 12th respectively.
Defensively, they allow 114.5 points per game ranking 17th. So far, their opponents shoot 47.4% from the field and 36.0% from the perimeter ranking 15th and 16th respectively.
Marko Simonovic (cervical strain) is questionable for Tuesday. Lonzo Ball (knee) and Javonte Green (knee) are both out indefinitely.

Free LA Clippers vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction:
Let’s assume Leonard will play and whether George returns or not with the extra rest almost half the roster received this weekend that should equate to an easier outing for the Clippers.
During their five-game win streak, LA averaged 126.8 points per game while holding opponents to 110.4 points (including the Spurs scoring 126 points).
If both LA stars play the Bulls should be asking why the Cavs keep getting these gimme games while they’re struggling for relevance.
