Thursday, January 14th finds the Indiana Pacers traveling to play a match versus the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Blazers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 52 wins in 92 meetings. Last season, the clubs played twice with each team winning one contest.
The big news on Wednesday was James Harden finally got his way after weeks of acting up and was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
Four teams were involved either directly or in follow-up trades including the Indiana Pacers who sent Victor Oladipo to the Rockets in exchange for Caris LeVert.
Kevin Pritchard makes arguably the best move of the day landing LeVert and a second-round pick. In doing so he gives the Pacers a less expensive guard in the first year of his three-year contract extension.
LeVert is averaging 18.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.1 steals averaging 27.8 minutes. Assuming he gets starters minutes (Oladipo averaged 33.3 minutes) his production should increase and notably his per 36 stats are better than Oladipo’s.
The new big 3 of LeVert, Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis seemingly enhance the Pacers position in the East.
Factor in Myles Turner plus TJ Warren and Jeremy Lamb will both eventually return from injury.
Playing the second game of a back-to-back Turner (22 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks) and Sabonis (18 points, 14 rebounds, six assists) both delivered double-doubles.
Aaron Holiday (16), Brogdon (13), and Edmond Sumner (12) contributed double-figure scores.
T.J. McConnell (health and safety protocols), Jalen Lecque (ankle), TJ Warren (foot surgery), Goga Bitadze (ankle), and Brian Bowen (groin) are all out indefinitely. Jeremy Lamb (knee) is set to return in mid-January.
Portland Trail Blazers
A back-to-back set is on tap for the Blazers on Wednesday and Thursday versus the Kings and Pacers respectively. This follows a double-digit comeback and one-point victory over the Raptors on Monday.
In the victory over the Raptors, the Blazers erased a 17 point deficit and took the lead on a CJ McCollum shot with less than 10 seconds remaining. McCollum finished with 30 points to lead the way.
Damian Lillard scored 23 while Carmelo Anthony registered 20 points. Enes Kanter scored 14 as he subbed in to replace Jusuf Nurkic who had to leave the game early with a thigh contusion.
The game came down to a final shot by Raptors Pascal Siakam that rimmed out for the second night in a row as they fell once again by a single point. This on a night where Siakam registered his first career triple-double.
Damian Lillard is nursing an ankle sprain and Jusuf Nurkic a quad contusion but both started the game versus the Kings. Whether they both play on Thursday may depend on their recovery.
Keljin Blevins (personal) is out Wednesday and questionable for Thursday.
Zach Collins is out indefinitely after undergoing another ankle surgery.
