Indiana Pacers
Every time it seems like the Pacers might be regressing to the mean they get a big win that keeps them in the thick of the parity pack. They are 5-5 through their last 10 matches with wins primarily versus sub-.500 clubs but there are some impressive victories in that quintet.
For example, they won both the home and away games versus Golden State being one of only two road teams to win at Chase Center and they had two huge road wins at the Celtics and Heat.
Tyrese Haliburton did everything for his team in the recent win at Miami including scoring a career-best 43 points and a game-winning 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds remaining.
Haliburton is averaging a double-double of 20.7 points and 10.5 assists plus 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. He’s shooting 48.1 percent from the field on 15.4 attempts, 40.5 percent from the perimeter on 7.6 attempts, and 87.8 percent from the stripe on 3.2 attempts.
The Pacers average 114.6 points per game (13th) shooting 45.8% from the field (25th) and 37.0% from deep (9th). Defensively, Indy allows 115.2 points (20th) with opponents shooting 46.5% from the field (12th), and 36.4% from deep (21st).
Aaron Nesmith (ankle) and Jalen Smith (ankle) are questionable for Monday. Kendall Brown (tibia fracture), and Daniel Theis (knee) are out indefinitely.
New Orleans Pelicans
Following their seven-game win streak that was capped by the baseball sweep of the Suns the Pelicans stumbled a bit. Whether the injuries finally caught up to them or perhaps as a young squad they bought into their own hype a little too quickly resulting in a four-game losing streak.
They got back on track by winning their last two matches (Spurs, Thunder) although the latter wasn’t easy, requiring overtime in OKC. Seven Pelicans scored in double-figures led by Trey Murphy III with 23 while CJ McCollum posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 assists.
Offensively, the Pelicans rank third for scoring averaging 117.9 points per game while shooting 48.3% from the field and 36.7% from the perimeter ranking fifth and 12th respectively.
Defensively, the Pelicans allow opponents to score 113.0 points per game, ranking 14th. New Orleans holds their opponents to 46.5% from the field ranking ninth and boasts the third-best perimeter ranking of 33.8%.
Brandon Ingram (toe) will miss his 14th consecutive game, but Zion Williamson is expected back in the lineup after a brief stint in quarantine.
Larry Nance (Achilles soreness) is questionable for Monday. E.J. Liddell (knee) is out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Pacers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The Pelicans are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The Pacers are 13-7 SU in their last 20 games against New Orleans.
- The Pelicans are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games.
Free Indiana Pacers vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction:
Although the Pelicans might have more experienced talent and are probably the deeper squad the Pacers have been this season’s Cinderella team.
Many young teams fall prey to the games that bookend Christmas so either side could falter in this first game back following the holiday. While I think the Pelicans collect the victory I’m taking the points and Indy to keep it close and maybe get the upset.
