Indiana Pacers
The Pacers lost big in Milwaukee on Sunday but bounced back to defeat the Raptors on Monday, 120–115.
TJ Warren and Myles Turner both scored twenty-four points in victory and Aaron Holiday, who stepped in to start at point guard for an injured Malcolm Brogdon, had nineteen with ten assists.

The Fourth Holiday was productive as a rookie out of none other than UCLA last season for the Pacers and he’s taken a step forward this here in his second, averaging over ten points in approximately twenty-three minutes primarily off the bench; he has, however, started thirteen games now for both Brogdon and Jeremy Lamb and proved valuable at either guard spot.
Holiday, Warren and Doug McDermott, who starred in a four-year career playing for his father at Creighton University, have played in all of Indiana’s thirty-one games this season.
Brogdon, who has a groin issue, missed his fifth. He’ll have had three days off over the holidays to recover but his status isn’t known for this game. Indiana will undoubtedly play the long game with its second highest-paid player because of guys like Holiday and McDermott who can come off the bench and provide valuable minutes.
But if he can’t go against the Heat, Brogdon will be missed. Miami depth will push the Pacers and even if Holiday plays as well as Brogdon, he won’t have a backup as dependable as he himself is on a daily basis.
Miami Heat
The Heat had a couple days off before it beat the Jazz, 107–104, on Monday. And like the Pacers, it has had three days off going into this one.
Miami survived a big game from Utah’s Joe Ingles, who scored twenty-seven points on seven three-pointers. Bam Adebayo put up a line for the Heat: eighteen points, twelve rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks.
Adebayo, a freakish athlete that played for John Calipari for one year at Kentucky, may not beat out some of the incumbents at center for the Eastern Conference’s All-Star Team but he’s got a case.
In addition to being a tremendous defender, he’s upped his scoring to nearly sixteen points per game so far this season; he’s grabbing over ten rebounds per game; and he seems to collect four or five assists nearly every night. It doesn’t get much better than that.
So while Jimmy Butler is getting the lion’s share of the credit for Miami’s success this season, there are more forces at work.
Goran Dragic, recently having returned to the lineup after missing nine games, has scored thirty-three points in two games off the bench. He and rookie Tyler Herro, who, like Adebayo, played one season at Kentucky, are the NBA’s best bench scoring duo.

Even if he does play, this will be a bare-knuckle brawl between two teams that just have to feel like overlooked contenders at this point out East.
The points look nice along with Indiana’s tough team defense, though. As of early Friday morning, this handicapper leans Indy.
