Friday, January 20th, finds the Indiana Pacers playing the Denver Nuggets for the second and final time this season. Denver won the initial meeting 120-109 on November 9th
Both clubs last played Wednesday with the Pacers losing 106-126 to the Thunder while the Nuggets defeated the Timberwolves 122-118.
Last season, the teams played twice with Denver taking both contests. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Pacers in 51 of their 97 matches

Indiana Pacers
The absence of Tyrese Haliburton is taking a toll as the Pacers have lost five in a row which includes the four games he’s missed plus the game he left early after sustaining elbow and knee strains.
They got pummeled by their Western Cinderella counterpart – the Thunder who join the Grizzlies and Nuggets as the hottest teams in the association.
The Pacers had the majority of their core available other than Haliburton but got exposed by the Thunder who collected an incredible 41 assists. While OKC is moving the ball and hitting their shots, that high tally also speaks to the defensive issues for the Pacers.

Until now, the Pacers averaged 115.3 points per game ranking 11th while shooting 45.9% from the field and 36.5% from the perimeter which ranks 23rd and 12th respectively.
Also, defensively, Indy allows 116.5 points which ranks 22nd while these opponents shoot 46.9% from the field and 37.2% from the perimeter ranking 11th and 29th.
To summarize the injuries, Tyrese Haliburton (elbow/knee sprains), Kendall Brown (tibia fracture), and Daniel Theis (knee) are out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokic collected his 14th triple-double (31 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists) and is just shy of averaging a trip-dub for the season with 25.1 points, 11 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game.
Jamal Murray is also rounding into form, looking much closer to his pre-injury self as he collected 28 points on an efficient 10 of 18.
Denver trailed by as much as 10 points and was down five with 2:51 remaining. The Nuggets didn’t allow Minny to score another point as Jokic hit two free throws, Murray scored five points to put Denver ahead and Aaron Gordon capped it with a dunk.

Denver possesses the best offense in the league scoring 117.3 points per game on average which ranks sixth. Also, their efficiency is the high mark in the NBA ranking first from the field with 51.0% effectiveness and also first from the perimeter shooting 39.7%.
To be sure, defensively the Nuggets are improving (top-ranked defense in the last five games). So far, they allow opponents to score 113.1 points per game which ranks 14th while limiting foes to 48.0% from the field and 35.1% from deep ranking 24th and ninth respectively.
On the negative side, Peyton Watson (groin), Jeff Green (hand fracture), and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.
