Friday, December 16th the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers meet for the first of four scheduled meetings. Indiana will host matches on December 29th and February 5th while Cleveland hosts the final meeting on April 2nd.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Pacers beating the Warriors 125-119 while the Cavaliers defeated the Mavericks 105-90.

Donovan Mitchell will likely get the All-Star nod for the Cavaliers but if fans/coaches picked the player most vital to the team’s success it would hands down be Jarrett Allen.
Cleveland plays with so much more force when he is in the lineup and the defense is decidedly better. Evan Mobley may one day be a Defensive Player of the Year but when Allen was out he wasn’t nearly as effective.
Donovan Mitchell leads his squad with 29.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 50.2 percent from the field on 20.6 attempts, 42.9 percent from deep on 9.0 attempts, and 89.3 percent from the line on 5.2 attempts.
Offensively, Cleveland scores 110.7 points per game ranking 24th while shooting 47.7% from the field and 36.8%, and the perimeter ranking 12th and ninth respectively.
Cleveland tops the league for opponent scoring limiting foes to an average of 104.6 points per game. Cavs opponents shoot 45.5% from the field and 35.0% from deep which ranks sixth and 12th respectively.
Dean Wade (shoulder), Dylan Windler (ankle), and Ricky Rubio (ACL surgery) are out indefinitely.

Kudos to Kevin Pritchard who has made repeated great moves to bolster this roster. In addition to drafting Mathurin Indy grabbed Andrew Nembhard who likely gets picked in the lottery if the draft was re-done today.
Or how about Jalen Smith, who Pritchard got for a cup of coffee but is providing serviceable minutes?
December 15th earmarked the date offseason free agents can now be traded so teams looking to get out of the parity-driven middle will be more active looking to make deals.
With that in mind, the Pacers could be one of the teams most active prior to the trade deadline. The only question is whether that will be as shoppers or buyers.
