Wednesday, February 10th finds the Indiana Pacers playing the Brooklyn Nets for the first time this season.
The Pacers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 108 wins in 182 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with Indiana taking two of the three meetings.
TJ Warren had to exit to have surgery on his foot and the trade for Caris LeVert resulted in the discovery of a mass on his kidney.
That’s two key players who would presumably be starting and likely be the second and third scoring options on the Pacers behind Domantas Sabonis.
The schedule hasn’t done the Pacers any favors as those last six games featured three top opponents (76ers, Bucks, Jazz) as well as the charging Hornets and Pelicans squads.
The most recent game featured a loss to the Jazz where they held the Pacers under 100 points (95-103). Notably, the Pacers were putting up 113.9 points per game on the season so this was well below their average.
Sabonis had delivered double-doubles in 18 of the team’s first 20 games (22 overall) but failed to reach that mark for the first time in back-to-back games this season. He came close versus the Jazz with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Doug McDermott (18), Malcolm Brogdon (13), Myles Turner (11), and Jeremy Lamb (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Warren and LeVert are out indefinitely with no timetable for return.
It was an odd week for the new Big 3 in Brooklyn as Kevin Durant got yanked mid-game versus the Raptors due to contact tracing and won’t return to the court at least until February 12th.
His absence is already an issue since the Nets aren’t deep up front. Brooklyn learned that the hard way on Monday versus the Pistons who allowed Jerami Grant to score 32.
In an effort to bolster their frontcourt the Nets signed Noah Vonleh to the team although he played a mere three minutes in Detroit.
Kyrie Irving returned after missing the game versus Philly and led the scoring with 27 points but took 28 shots to amass that total (12 of 28).
James Harden posted a double-double of 24 points and 12 assists. Jeff Green (10) and Landry Shamet (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Iman Shumpert (hamstring) missed the Tuesday game and is questionable for Wednesday. Durant (health and safety) is out until February 12th. Nicolas Claxton (knee) won’t return until March.
Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Pacers are 8-2 in the teams last 10 meetings.
- Pacers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these clubs
- The over/under is 5-5 in the last 10 contests between the clubs.
Free Indiana Pacers vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
The Pacers will have a decided rest advantage, last playing on Sunday with the Nets playing the second of a back-to-back set. The reserve units will play a factor for Brooklyn specifically because of that rest oddity.
While that would’ve favored the Nets since the Harden trade the Nets bench has dropped from 18th to 28th in points per game.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Pacers +2
Factor in the Nets don’t have a counter for Sabonis plus the three days Bjorkgren had to prepare his Pacers and I think it will result in a Pacers win.
