With James Harden exiting for his preferred destination of Brooklyn the Rockets launched the next era of the franchise. Christian Wood is the centerpiece they’ll begin the rebuild around with Victor Oladipo joining them once he presumably clears a quarantine period.
The new era began with the battle of Texas featuring the Rockets and Spurs playing two games over three days in San Antonio. Houston won the game 109-105.
The Spurs own the all-time record winning 110 of 201 matches between the clubs. This past season the teams played four times with the Rockets winning two of the three contests.
Houston Rockets
While the public knew James Harden wanted to be traded it’s coming to light how disrespectful he was to his teammates as some of them are being vocal regarding how happy they are Harden is gone.

Wood certainly didn’t shy away from the spotlight as he led the Rockets posting a double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds plus five 3-pointers.
Jae’Sean Tate also delivered a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists along with five rebounds.
Sterling Brown assumes Harden’s starting spot and embraced his new role with 23 points. PJ Tucker chipped in 10 points as the other double-figure contributor.
Eric Gordon (leg stiffness) missed the last game and is questionable for Saturday. DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) is doubtful while John Wall (sore knee) and Brodric Thomas (ankle) are both out Saturday.
Danuel House Jr. (back) is out indefinitely and Chris Clemons (Achilles) is lost for the season.
San Antonio Spurs
The AT&T Center hasn’t been a welcome spot for the Spurs who have fared much better on the road this season. Through five home games, the Spurs have a single victory while they’ve won five of seven on the road.
Although San Antonio battled on Thursday the Rockets were buoyed by the massive burden that was lifted from their shoulders with the Harden drama finally over.
Keldon Johnson continues to put out impressive performances and looks like he may be the star Gregg Popovich can focus the next stage of the Spurs around. KJ led the way Thursday with 29 points and six rebounds.
All five starters reached double-figure scoring including Lonnie Walker (16), DeMar DeRozan (13), LaMarcus Aldridge (11), and Dejounte Murray (10). Devin Vassell chipped in 12 points from the bench.
Keita Bates-Diop (respiratory) is questionable for Saturday. Derrick White (toe) is out until February. Drew Eubanks (illness) and Quinndary Weatherspoon (knee) are out indefinitely.
