Wednesday, February 3rd the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder meet for the second time in three days. The Rockets won the initial game in a blowout (136-106)
The Thunder holds the all-time record between the squads with 114 victories in 224 meetings. Last season these clubs played three times with Oklahoma City winning two of the three contests.
Houston Rockets
With the Jazz win streak ending in Denver and the Grizzlies losing to the Pacers the Rockets now hold the longest active streak with six wins in a row.
While James Harden proclaimed this Rockets team simply weren’t good enough following his trade the players who took umbrage with his comments are proving otherwise.
Case in point, with Harden the Rockets registered a 3-6 record, but since he was traded the team has produced a 7-3 record.
The Rockets were on fire from the perimeter scoring 11 triples in the opening frame and 28 of 52 in the match for a highly efficient 53.8 percent.
In just the third game with each of John Wall, Christian Wood, and Victor Oladipo active the Rockets showcased how effective the starting lineup can be.
Each had a great performance in the win but notably, it was via balanced scoring. Wood notched a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, Wall scored 18 while Oladipo added 15 points.
Eric Gordon led the scoring with 25 points while DeMarcus Cousins (17), Danuel House Jr. (13), and Jae’Sean Tate (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
John Wall will sit out his match for rest. David Nwaba (ankle) missed the last game and won’t play Wednesday nor will Brodric Thomas (ankle). Dante Exum (calf strain) is out until late March.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The young Thunder crew has alternated surprising wins with big blowouts but don’t get ruffled by the latter as the team is hoping to obtain one of the highly coveted bottom three positions in order to nab the top draft pick.
Of the 11 losses, this season nine were by 10 or more points. Of those five were by 22 or more points and four by 28 or more.
Up until the loss to the Rockets, the Thunder had followed up those big ousts by a victory. Part of that was scheduling luck as they drew the Magic, Pelicans, and Bulls in those wins.
They won’t have the same option in this rematch but given their identity fans should expect a better effort with palpable tweaks to correct their mistakes from the prior game.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led his team with 19 points but tweaked his knee and is listed as day-to-day. Darius Bazley (15), Al Horford (12), Theo Maledon (11) and Justin Jackson (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
George Hill will be out until March with a sore thumb. Josh Hall (illness), Ty Jerome (ankle), and Trevor Ariza (personal) are all out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The teams are 5-5 in their last 10 head to head meetings
- Thunder are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 4-6 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
The Thunder had the fifth-best perimeter defense but fell to 14th after the loss to Houston. Look for Mark Daigneault to make the appropriate tweaks for this game.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Rockets ATS
With Hill out and Gilgeous-Alexander questionable, it puts a ton of pressure on rookie Theo Maledon to run the point. Will he rise to the occasion adding to the narrative that his 34th selection was the steal in this draft class?
