This Sunday Night match-up will see the Houston Rockets take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets saw their four game winning streak snapped on Christmas Day when they lost to the Golden State Warriors 116-104. At the moment, they are the fourth seed in the Western Conference, but with still so much time left, they have plenty of chances to move up. They also will be playing the second night of a back to back, so fatigue could play a factor.
Even though the Rockets struggled to score on Christmas, they still have the second best scoring offense in the NBA. They are averaging 119.7 points per game. However, their shooting percentages are still not great based on how many shots they tend to take. Currently they are averaging just 45.2% from the field, ranking 20th in the league. Their three-point shooting ranks 22nd in the league and they shoot an average of 35.0%.
MVP candidate, James Harden leads this team by averaging 38.1 points per game. Russell Westbrook has also been a huge contributor, averaging 24.1 points per game. Next up is Clint Capela, who averages a double-double with 13.9 points and 14.4 rebounds per game. Note that Capela has been ruled out for the game on Saturday, so most likely he will be out in this game as well.

As shown in Golden State, Houston fails to play good defense. They allow an average of 114.5 points per game. This ranks as the 23rd best scoring defense. Teams shoot 45.9% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point line as well, both ranking about in the middle.
Even against a team like the Pelicans, they are susceptible of giving up a ton of points, which could pose a problem.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans continue to have a dreadful season, however, they currently find themselves on a two-game winning streak. They just beat the Denver Nuggets 112-100 on Christmas. The Pelicans also will be playing the second night of a back to back.
Offense has not necessarily been the glaring issue as the Pelicans average 111.6 points per game. This gives them the 14th best scoring offense in the league. However, their field goal percentage is well below average at 44.5%. This ranks 22nd in the NBA. Now their three-point percentage has been extremely good, averaging 36.5% from long range and ranking 7th.
Brandon Ingram continues to excel in his role with the Pelicans night in and night out. He is averaging 25.2 points per game. Right behind him is Jrue Hoiday, who has contributed an average of 19.7 points per game. Other role players include JJ Reddick, Josh Hart and Lonzo Ball. All three are averaging at least 10 points per game.
One issue is they do not have a dominant big man to control the post. Their leading rebounder averages 9.3 boards per game, so this is an area that could improve.
Defensively, the Pelicans are one of the worst units in the NBA. Especially scoring defense where they are allowing an average of 117.2 points per game. Teams shoot an average of 46.7% from the field and 36.2% from the three-point line. Both of these categories rank in the bottom half of the NBA.

Free Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction:
With both teams having played on Saturday, I do believe fatigue is going to play a big role here. The Rockets are more than likely going to be missing their best big man, so I like this to be a lower scoring game with the under as the play.
