Rockets vs. Lakers Gameday
Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Playoffs between the Houston Rockets and LA Lakers closes out the day’s events with the 10:00 p.m. nightcap.
Houston staved off elimination, forcing this game after winning 115-96 to keep the series alive. Their backs are against the wall, however, as LA has three more opportunities to complete the series.
All five starters scored in double figures in Game 4, led by Amen Thompson with 23 points and seven assists. Tari Eason scored 20 points while Alperen Sengun had 19 plus six rebounds.
Only three Lakers scored in double digits, with Deandre Ayton the top man collecting a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. LeBron James had his worst postseason outing with 10 points on 2 of 9 from the field, along with eight turnovers.

Houston Rockets vs. LA Lakers Odds & Last 5
For the past two campaigns, the Lakers have won the regular-season series, two games to one versus the Rockets.
There is a long-storied history of postseason meetings between these clubs as they’ve met on nine previous occasions. LA has won on six of those occasions, including the last time they tipped off in 2020.
To finish the season, the Rockets hit their stride, winning nine of their last 10 matches. LA had won 13 of 14 but then got hit by injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves, and the team finished 3-3 through the final six contests.
LA is favored by four points with an over/under of 208.5 points.

Houston Rockets vs. LA Lakers bottom line:
It feels like just a matter of time before the Rockets are sent fishing, but health could play a role for both teams.
Austin Reeves is said to be expected to make a return for Game 5, and that will give LA a boost in scoring, although he’ll also represent a player the Rockets can hunt defensively.
On the Rockets’ side of things, Kevin Durant is dealing with a bone bruise in his ankle, so he’s out again, which doesn’t bode well for Houston.

Rockets Lakers Free Pick: Lakers -4
Here is my Rockets Lakers free pick.
Clearly, not having Kevin Durant is a problem, but the Rockets seemed to stumble upon something in Game 4 that could help them stay alive.
They didn’t allow LeBron to have easy angles to set up his teammates and forced him to cough up the ball eight times. It looked like Ime Udoka had found a little something, but by the same token, the Lakers also looked like a team that knew they had multiple chances to finish the series.
Bench scoring will be a struggle for both squads as the Rockets reserves rank 30th in scoring while the Lakers reserves rank 29th.
With Reeves back, the Lakers get a shot in the arm offensively, and with the Rockets only scoring well in one of the four games, that’s not good news for them.
Houston hasn’t played as well on the road as they have at home, and need to summon their best effort in this match. Conversely, the Lakers can’t afford to play with their food because OKC swept the Suns and is sitting, resting.
I’m rolling with the Lakers taking care of business with Reeves back
