The All-Star break is always a welcomed breather for NBA teams, especially for the Golden State Warriors.
They were on a 4 game losing streak and even with a great start for Andrew Wiggins who they acquired via trade, the Warriors still look to finish last in the conference.
The Rockets are also adjusting to shifting to a smaller lineup, after the Clint Capela trade. This will free up the lane for Russell Westbrook.
It will, however, make the Rockets vulnerable on the boards against bigger teams. That will not be a problem against the Warriors.
They’ve split the regular-season series at 1 game each but a rested Rockets team will want to start the second half of the season with a win.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are likely going to spend the second half of the season planning for next season. You can’t blame them for tanking and for the tanking to start now.

They will be experimenting with lineups and seeing how the newly acquired Andrew Wiggins will develop his game.
In Wiggin’s three games with the Warriors, he’s averaged 23 points, 4 assists, and 2.7 rebounds. All three games were losses for the Warriors.
Houston’s offense may be too explosive for the Warriors to keep up with. Wiggins and co will have opportunities to score against the Rocket’s smaller frontcourt.
It’s whether the rest of the Warriors teams can keep up with a Rockets team that has opened up the lane for Westbrook.
Look to Draymond Green and Eric Paschall to attack the Rockets smaller frontcourt early. If they can control the board the Warriors can contest in this game.
Houston Rockets
The trading away of Clint Capela is a gamble for the Rockets. This will allow them to play a fast-paced offense that will force teams to keep up.
Their head coach Mike D’Antoni is not known for his defensive mindset. This Rockets offense may be the most explosive he’s ever coached.
Via the Capela trade, they did acquire Robert Covington who is known for his defense. The Rockets will still be vulnerable against teams that are stout defensively.
Against the Warriors, the Rockets will be looking to get their new looks offense in rhythm. The Warriors did beat the Rockets in their last meeting.
If the Rockets don’t control the board, the Warriors could make this game scrappy and closely contested.
That will not bode well for a team with a now smaller lineup. They will be looking to get Harden and Westbrook going early and continuously.

The Rockets will want to come off the All-Star break with a win. They will want their offense which will go through Harden and Westbrook to gain traction. The jostling for playoff seedings in highly competitive West begins now. Houston will want home-court advantage at least in the first round.
