These are two teams trying to figure out their direction. Amidst the turmoil somehow Houston has one more win.
Detroit might have the worst roster in the NBA right now. It is time to tear it down to the studs.
Christian Wood returns to Detroit as a star. That fact is pretty indicative if the team building going on in the motor city right now.
Houston Rockets
Winning is not easy for Houston right now, especially on the road where they are 1-5.
This does not look like a good spot for the Rockets to add to that total. They have significant injuries with John Wall out and Wood added to the injury list too.
That means the scoring falls to Victor Oladipo and Eric Gordon. Both had 22 points in their last game, a loss at home to Phoenix.
No Wood makes a small team that much smaller. He is the team’s leading rebounder and only productive big man. I am guessing Demarcus Cousins is pressed into a larger role for this one.
Houston just did some more tinkering acquiring the athletic Kevin Porter from Cleveland. I am not sure he suits up for this one even though they could use him.
A healthy Houston with Wall, Wood, Oladipo and Gordon might actually be kind if interesting. Whether health will let that lineup ever suit up together, who knows.
It looks like another road loss for the Rockets in this one.
Detroit Pistons
Detroit has been bad this season, but I suppose better than expected enough to post a 7-6-1 ATS record.
Jerami Grant leaving Denver was a head-scratcher for a lot of people. He did find a good situation for himself though. He leads the team in scoring at 25ppg. I didn’t think he had that kind of production to unleash.
The Pistons need to find a way to get out from under Blake Griffin. He has sunk to being the team’s third-leading scorer and rebounder and most nights he is pretty invisible. At least Derrick Rose, the team’s second-leading scorer gives you flashes where he actually dominates the game.
With those players hogging minutes and others going to the likes of Wayne Ellington and Mason Plumlee it is hard for their young players to actually develop. Top pick Killian Hayes is out til March. The direction of the team is hard to figure out right now.

If Houston were healthy this line is probably flipped. Neither choice is all that compelling an option but in this wacky season I am going alwaws side with grabbing some points.
This one comes down to Oladipo and Gordon, with extra shots for each there is no reason they can’t each score in the 30s. Grant might have a big game too but it won’t be enough.
