Wednesday, November 16th, finds the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns playing for the second time this season. The Suns spanked the Warriors in the first meeting 134-105.
The Pacific Division rivals will face each other twice more with the Warriors hosting both contests on January 10th and March 13th.
Both teams played on Monday with the Warriors pounding the Spurs 132-95 while the Suns lost a heartbreaker 112-113 to the Heat amidst a very biased home whistle.
Last season, the teams split the series by each winning twice. The Suns have won 144 of the 256 matches played between the clubs all-time.
Golden State Warriors
At season start the Warriors’ intention was to increase their youngster’s minutes with the double benefit of them gaining game experience and also giving their veteran core rest.
Unfortunately, the best-laid plans don’t always produce the desired results and through the early season, the Dubs’ losses have stemmed primarily back to the inability of the young players to be competitive.
It’s forced Steve Kerr to make tweaks with most noticeably, Andrew Wiggins spending more time with Jordan Poole and the bench unit.
Following the game Monday, Kerr dropped the other shoe noting James Wiseman will be sent to the G-League for an “extended stay”.
That tells us everything we need to know – Wiseman is the player they feel needs the most work and time and with the Warriors’ intentions of repeating they can’t afford for Wiseman to learn those lessons with the varsity unit.
Jordan Poole has cemented his position in the rotation but Golden State wants Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga to show palpable growth and to this point, they haven’t.
Patrick Baldwin Jr. (back) is questionable while Andre Iguodala (hip) remains out.
Phoenix Suns
Okay, so much for my conspiracy theory about the teams for sale always getting the whistle benefit. The refs blew that thought out of the water by only awarding FOUR free throws to the Suns on Monday compared to TWENTY FIVE for the Heat.
Even if the Heat were playing better this one smells a bit fishy given the Suns scored just two points less in the paint (42 to 44) and they’ve got a bonafide “super” star in Devin Booker on their team.
That the Heat collected only ten personal fouls collectively is also head-scratching considering the style of ball they play.
Granted, the Suns have been on the receiving end of the biased whistle on many more occasions than not. In fact, I direct you back to the initial meeting between these two teams.
Halfway through the third quarter in a four-point competitive game, the refs completely took over leading to Klay Thompson’s first EVER ejection and copious ridiculous favorable Suns calls that blew the game open for Phoenix (they won 134-105).
In truth, that game was among the chief reasons I shifted to my conspiracy theory.
Chris Paul (heel) is questionable while Landry Shamet (concussion) was downgraded to out Wednesday. Jae Crowder (trade request) is away from the team and Cameron Johnson (knee) is out indefinitely.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
Can the Warriors win on the road? Of course, they can — they just haven’t done it so far this season in their seven opportunities. In fact, all but one of their losses are tied to the road.
I’d bet good money Draymond Green and Klay Thompson circled this date the minute that October 25th game wrapped. Both have demonstrated they hold grudges and take umbrage with any form of disrespect so factor that into the mix of this game.
The Suns are also playing shorthanded (regardless if CP3 plays) so they’re also at that disadvantage.
It feels apropos that the Dubs’ first road win would come against an elite team and one that they have a major rivalry with.
