Tuesday, December 20th, the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks play for the second and final time this season. The teams played on November 18th with the Warriors winning 111-101.
Both teams last played Sunday with the Warriors beating the Raptors 126-110 while the Knicks defeated the Pacers 109-106.
Last season, the teams played twice with each team winning one contest. The Warriors have won 184 of the 347 matches played versus the Knicks all-time.

Golden State Warriors
Prior to Sunday, the Warriors were 0-4 without Stephen Curry in the lineup so while this victory might be an outlier it’s also notable Draymond Green rested against the 76ers and dropped three consecutive 3-pointers to open the game in Toronto.
Yet, this is what the Warriors will need to do without Steph for at least a few weeks and possibly up to a month.
While the Warriors are the one team who doesn’t care as much about getting home court they also don’t want to mess around falling to a play-in seed. (see 2021 when the Warriors lost both play-in games to the Lakers and Grizzlies)
Curry was on pace for the elusive 50-40-90 season shooting 50.0 percent from the field on 20.2 attempts, 43.4 percent from the perimeter on 11.6 attempts, and 91.9 percent from the stripe on 5.2 attempts.
Without him, the Dubs need to replace his 30 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
The Dubs average 117.3 points per game (3rd) while shooting 47.7% from the field (8th) and 38.1% from deep (5th). Defensively, they rank 26th for opponent scoring (116.6) while foes shoot 46.4% from the field and 35.3% from deep ranking 12th and 18th respectively.
Jonathan Kuminga and Klay Thompson are both probable despite dealing with knee soreness. Curry (shoulder), Andrew Wiggins (groin), and Andre Iguodala (hip) are out.
New York Knicks
The winning streak is at seven and it’s impossible not to hail Quentin Grimes as the reason for the shift in the Knicks’ performance.
Specifically, because he’s raised the overall defensive level and isn’t a player concerned about touches which is important considering RJ Barrett and Julius Randle are average defenders (at best) so his presence makes a huge difference to the overall defensive ability of that unit.
Randle is averaging 22.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 45.5% from the field on 16.4 attempts, 33.3% from the perimeter on 7.1 attempts, and 79.3% from the stripe on 6.6 attempts.
Offensively, the Knicks score 114.1 points per game (13th). New York shoots 45.3% from the field ranking 25th and 32.8% from the perimeter ranking 26th.
Defensively, the Knicks allow opponents to score 112.2 points per game (14th). New York allows their opponents to shoot 45.0% from the field and 33.9% from the perimeter ranking third and fifth respectively.
Obi Toppin (non-displaced fibula fracture) is out.

Could the win in Toronto turn the tide for the ‘road’ Warriors? For the Dubs to navigate the absence of Curry two things are essential — Jordan Poole has to shine as the primary scorer and Draymond Green needs to lead the team defensively and keep the youngsters focused and calm.
The Knicks, are looking like a typical Thibs defensive club recently but it’s worth noting the win streak featured struggling clubs (Bulls x2, Hornets) and each of the Hawks, Kings, and Cavaliers were missing key contributors.
They’ll get the Warriors without Steph and Wiggins but as they demonstrated in Toronto and when they faced the Celtics, it’s not a good idea to underestimate the defending champs. For that reason, I’ll take the points and the Dubs.
