Wednesday, December 14th, the Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers play for the second and final time this season. Indiana won the initial December 5th match 112-104.
The Warriors are finishing a back-to-back having lost 111-128 to the Bucks on Tuesday while Indy lost an old-fashioned defensive battle 82-87 to the Heat on Monday.
The teams have played a total of 96 occasions in their history with the Pacers winning 50 contests. Last season, the clubs played twice with each team winning on the opponent’s court.
Golden State Warriors
The road woes continue for the Dubs which isn’t great news considering they began a season-long six-game road trip on Tuesday that finds them in Indy for this match having to play on consecutive nights.
Steve Kerr didn’t push his core too hard, however, with Jordan Poole (32) the only player logging more than 30 minutes of court time.
Stephen Curry led the scoring with 20 points but it was a rough shooting night for him (6 of 17). Poole registered a mirror image of shots vs. makes while Klay Thompson shot 6 of 16.
Curry is currently on pace for the elusive 50-40-90 season shooting 50.2 percent from the field on 20.3 attempts, 43.6 percent from the perimeter on 11.8 attempts, and 90.8 percent from the stripe on 5.0 attempts.
He’s averaging 30 points, 6.6 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
The Dubs average 117.4 points per game (4th) while shooting 47.8% from the field (7th) and 37.7% from deep (5th).
Defensively, they rank 23rd for opponent scoring (116.5) while shooting 46.5% from the field and 34.7% from deep ranking 10th in both.
Although the injury report isn’t in yet it’s safe to assume Andrew Wiggins (groin) and Andre Iguodala (hip) are out.
What isn’t certain is whether the Dubs will rest any of their core given the back-to-back although Kerr playing Curry/Thompson 27 minutes and Draymond Green 23 sort of indicates he was saving them for this contest.
Indiana Pacers
Tyrese Haliburton had a rough night at the office on Monday scoring a single point collected at the line while he was scoreless from the field (0-9)
Haliburton is averaging a double-double of 19.4 points and 10.8 assists plus 4.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. He’s shooting 47.7 percent from the field on 14.9 attempts, 39.7 percent from the perimeter on 7.1 attempts, and 86.1 percent from the stripe on 2.8 attempts.
The Pacers average 114.6 points per game (12th) shooting 45.3% from the field (24th) and 36.5% from deep (12th). Defensively, Indy allows 115.6 points (22nd) with opponents shooting 46.9% from the field (15th), and 36.2% from deep (20th).
The Pacers got some good news with Chris Duarte nearing a return as he went to get reps and in condition with the Pacers G-League squad. Duarte has missed the last 19 games after spraining his ankle on November 4th versus the Heat.
He’ll play Wednesday and Friday with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and then the team will reassess his return date.
Duarte (on assignment), Kendall Brown (tibia fracture), and Daniel Theis (knee) are out.

The Pacers benefitted from an early opening quarter schedule which might be why they’re not finding the same success now that the itinerary is getting tougher.
Being held to 82 points was their lowest-scoring output of the season and only the second time they’ve been held under 100 points.
While they have the rest advantage, the Warriors have played better of late albeit not yet on the road. Still, with the small 1.5 spread, I like the Warriors to win and cover.
