Friday, January 20th the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers meet for the second and final time this season. Golden State won the initial meeting 106-101 on November 11th.
The Warriors are completing a tough back-to-back losing to the Celtics 118-121 in overtime on Thursday while the Cavaliers played on Wednesday losing a nailbiter 114-115 to the Grizzlies.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Warriors taking both contests and holding an 11-game winning streak versus the Cavs dating back to January 16th, 2017. The Warriors have won 67 of the 119 matches played between the clubs all-time.

Golden State Warriors
It was already going to be a tough two games facing the Celtics and Cavaliers on consecutive nights but having to play extra minutes by virtue of the overtime will add to the fatigue level of the Warriors.
Steph Curry and Jordan Poole played 43 minutes, Andrew Wiggins logged 40 minutes while Draymond Green and Klay Thompson played 37 and 36 minutes respectively.
The fact Curry and Wiggins only just returned from long absences has me wondering if they (or Klay) will even play on Friday.
Stats
First thing to remember, Golden State averages 117.5 points per game which ranks fourth overall while they shoot 47.3% from the field and 37.4% from deep ranking 16th and fifth respectively.
So far, Warriors opponents score 117.9 points (26th) shooting 46.9% from the field (10th) and 36.0% from deep (16th).
Presumably, the injury list (not yet submitted) will emulate Thursday’s list with Andre Iguodala (hip) JaMychal Green (leg), Jonathan Kuminga (foot), and James Wiseman (ankle) out.
Cleveland Cavaliers
After leaving the last game early due to tweaking his groin Donovan Mitchell missed the match versus the Grizzlies. Darius Garland tried to make up the slack and had the Cavs ahead by 10 points early.
But as Memphis frequently does they roared back to take their own 17-point lead as the teams battled down the stretch and Cleveland came up short.
It was a tough loss for Cleveland who grabbed two key offensive rebounds at 36 and 27 seconds remaining but weren’t able to capitalize.
Jaren Jackson Jr., blocked Garland’s shot, then the Grizz forced a 5-second count and couldn’t grab the one rebound they needed as Steven Adams tipped the ball in off a missed Morant shot to win the game by a single point.
Stats
Offensively, Cleveland scores 111.6 points per game ranking 26th while shooting 48.2% from the field and 36.2% on the perimeter ranking seventh and 14th respectively.
At this instant, Cleveland tops the league for opponent scoring limiting foes to an average of 107.1 points per game. Also, Cavs opponents shoot 46.5% from the field and 36.5% from deep ranking eighth and 23rd.
On the negative side, Donovan Mitchell (groin) is questionable for Friday. Dylan Windler (ankle) and Dean Wade (shoulder) are out indefinitely.

Steve Kerr opted to start Poole in place of Kevon Looney and that paid dividends as four of the five starters scored 20 or more (Draymond Green scored 11). It punctuated the drop-off that occurs when the reserves check in as Malcolm Brogdon outscored the Dubs’ bench 14 to 10.
The Cavaliers have the rest advantage which was amplified given the Dubs’ overtime game and while Golden State hasn’t played well on the road, I like them to keep it closer than the spread.
In fact, I think Golden State could replicate what happened in their last back-to-back when they lost in Chicago but won in Washington.
The question is whether the Cavs can be lured into an offensive tilt or lock down defensively from the tip. They’ve shown a propensity to fall for the bait so we’ll see.
