Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic Odds & Last 5
The teams split this campaign, each winning twice, although one of those Magic wins came with most of the Pistons’ core being rested.
This is the fifth meeting between the clubs in postseason history, with Detroit holding the edge three series to one. It’s been since the Dwight Howard era that these clubs played in the postseason.
To finish the season, the Magic were flailing, hitting some major lows and seldom looking like a squad to be afraid of. They were in the mix to finish as high as fifth but fell into the Play-In and needed both opportunities to reach the playoffs.
In contrast, Detroit sewed up the top seed with ample time to spare, allowing the club to ease Cunningham back into rhythm while also taking the final few games to sit and rest their core.
The Pistons are favored by an 2.5-point spread with an over/under of 214.5 points.
Pistons Stats
With the regular season in the vault, Charlotte ranks fifth offensively (118.4), tied for 11th defensively (113.5), and eighth in net rating (+4.9), running a pace of 97.60, which ranks 26th overall.
The East’s ninth-place Hornets averaged 116.0 points per game while their opponents averaged 111.2 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Charlotte averages 26.3 (15th) and 46.1 (fifth), respectively.
Charlotte’s team leaders are Brandon Miller for scoring (20.2), LaMelo Ball for assists (7.1) and steals (1.2), Moussa Diabaté for rebounds (8.7), and Ryan Kalkbrenner for blocks (1.5).
Perimeter shooting is a strength for the Hornets, who have 11 *players shooting above league average, while the team shoots 37.8% overall.

With the regular season complete, Orlando ranks 18th (114.2) on offense and tied for 13th on defense (113.6). Additionally, the Magic are 17th in net rating (+0.6) and possess the 14th-quickest pace (100.56).
The East’s eighth seed averages 115.7 points per game while its opponents average 115.1 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Orlando averages 26.5 (15th) and 43.4 (19th), respectively.
Orlando’s team leaders* are Paolo Banchero for scoring (22.2 points) and rebounds (8.4), Jalen Suggs for assists (5.5) and steals (1.8), and Goga Bitadze for blocks (1.0).

Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic bottom line:
Orlando exposed the Pistons in Game 1 in terms of their lack of offense. And, while the Pistons bounced back for an easy victory in Game 2, they did it with defense.
Whether this is a long series or not, the reality is any Detroit opponent will emulate what Orlando did by putting pressure on Cunningham knowing there isn’t much scoring or playmaking around him.
Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic Basketball Betting Trends
- Detroit is 11-5 ATS in its last 16 games.
- The Pistons are 4-1 SU in its last 5 games.
- Detroit is 4-11 SU in its last 15 games against Orlando.
- Also, Orlando is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Orlando’s last 6 games.
- Additionally, Orlando is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home.
Pistons Magic Free Pick: Hornets -3.5
Here is my Pistons Magic free pick.
Orlando will need to do more in Game 3 if they want to make this a long series as they shot 33% from the field in Game 2 and 25% from the perimeter.
The glass was also an issue where the Pistons outrebounded the Magic 57 to 42 and 17 to 13 on the offensive glass. Turnovers for both squads were problematic with a combined 42 miscues between the clubs.
Prepare for an old fashioned, grueling mucked up series as the Magic appear to have rediscovered the defense that had pundits raving about them this past offseason while the Pistons are a top-two defensive club.
Perhaps the saving grace for the Magic is that they tend to play much better in front of their hometown fans, but they’ll need more than the crowd to be that Sixth Man if they want to move ahead from this game.
Tweaks will be made by both teams with each trying to emulate their respective successes in the two games played.
Ultimately, I just have more faith in the Pistons defense than the Magic’s offense so I’ll take Detroit to win and cover the meager spread.
