Detroit Pistons
Winners of two in a row and three out of four, Detroit dropped a close one in Chicago Wednesday, 105–102.
Jerami Grant scored 40 points for the first time in his career. He finished with 43 on 15-of-25 from the field. He did not get as much as a single assist, however. No other Piston took more than nine shots.
That isn’t an indictment of Grant. He’s clearly the best option on his team and he scored extremely efficiently in nearly leading his team to a road victory. He only turned it over three times, too.
Blake Griffin continued to sit for the Pistons as they work out a plan for what to do with the six-time All-Star. He will either be traded or bought-out in due time.
The Pistons are interesting because despite the worst record in the Eastern Conference, they have lots of quality wins, including two over Boston and one against the Lakers, Suns, Heat, 76ers and Nets. Most recently, they beat the Pelicans.
So they are capable of playing with the best teams in the league on the right night. They’re physical, which bothers some teams.
But they are low on talent, especially offensively. When Grant isn’t getting to his spots and knocking down outside shots, Detroit really struggles to score.
Memphis Grizzlies
Detroit will arrive in Memphis, which is fresh off a 122–113 victory over the Thunder on Wednesday. The Grizzlies won that game at home and so will be in a comfy spot in this one.
Memphis won that game against OKC to get back to .500 despite missing Desmond Bane, who missed his fourth game in a row with a personal matter. De’Anthony Melton continued to sit with a shoulder and it appeared Gorgui Dieng was a healthy scratch.
The Grizzlies have depth, though. Grayson Allen played big minutes and scored 22 just a week or so after setting a season-high with 23.
Ja Morant again didn’t score much (15 points) but he finished with a triple-double and led the team in minutes.
Dillon Brooks, Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Anderson rounded out the starting five by each scoring in double-figures.
Brandon Clarke (12 points, six rebounds) and Tyus Jones (four assists, no turnovers) were the main men off the bench.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Grizzlies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

- The Grizzlies are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 3-5-2 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- Under is 7-1-1 in Pistons last 9 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Free Detroit Pistons vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction: Memphis easy.
The Grizzlies should not be phased by Detroit’s aggressiveness. On top of that, they have some bodies to throw at Grant, whether its Anderson, Clarke or the smaller Allen.
Look for Memphis to challenge the Pistons and make this one something close to a wire-to-wire.
Also, Morant should dominate the larger players Detroit has that just aren’t quick enough to stay in front of him consistently.
