Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets will try to win their first game of the season Monday night against Houston before skipping town and landing in Sacramento for this one, a second game of a back-to-back.
That might be more powerful in the mind’s of bettors than on the bodies of the athletes. Denver has young and healthy bodies that will be eager to get as many games under their belts as possible.
Of course, the Nuggets’ season ended in the Western Conference Finals last season. It would be incorrect to say all the key members on last year’s team are back this season, however.
Jerami Grant was shipped off to Detroit after a fine season. Torrey Craig and Malik Beasley are in Milwaukee and Minnesota, respectively. They were quality role players for Denver but are not irreplaceable.
JaMychal Green should help to replace some of the production but he has not debuted yet this season as he nurses a calf injury. More will be expected of Michael Porter Jr. after his tantalizing sophomore season.
Consider me skeptical the Nuggets will just be able to easily replace some of the depth they lost, however. New challengers are eager to contend in the West this year, too.
Sacramento Kings
Sacramento certainly counts itself are one of those teams. It defeated Denver in the first game of its season and has since split a back-to-back with division foe Phoenix.
The Kings play small and they play fast, which means they will rely heavily on Marvin Bagley, the second overall draft pick in 2018, to stay healthy and play big in his third professional season.
If Bagley, who played just 75 games in his first two NBA seasons, plays well, Sacramento will move the needle, perhaps significantly, from where it was a season ago, which was just outside of the playoffs.
If he does not, however, or if he gets hurt again, the Kings will be hurting and likely in search of an identity.
Harrison Barnes is averaging nine rebounds per game so far this season and Richaun Holmes is back and crashing the glass.
Tyrese Haliburton, 6’5″ from Iowa State, is on some rookie radars as someone who could move that needle too. He has hit for double-figures in two of his first three NBA games.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over is 6-2 in SAC last 8 vs. NBA Northwest.
- SAC are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 home games.
- Head to Head: Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
Free Denver Nuggets vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction: Kings.
It isn’t because of the back-to-back. If Bagley can ever be counted on, it may be now, early in a regular season he has started with a clean bill of health.
Look for him to challenge Jokic and the for the Kings to win as the more aggressive side.
