Friday, January 13th, finds the Denver Nuggets facing the LA Clippers in the third of four scheduled meetings this season. Denver won both prior meetings including on November 25th (114-104) and January 5th (122-91) and will host the final meeting on February 26th.
Meanwhile, the Nuggets last played on Wednesday pummeling the injury-decimated Suns 126-97 while the Clippers beat the Mavericks 113-101 on Tuesday.
Last season, the teams played on four occasions with the Nuggets taking three of the four contests. Also, the Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 104 of their 187 matches.

Denver Nuggets
Wins continue to roll in for the Nuggets with 13 in their last 16 matches and only the Grizzlies keeping pace. They hold a 3.5-game pad over the Pelicans and are up 5.0 on Dallas.
With both the Pelicans and Mavericks dealing with injuries it’s giving the Nuggets and Grizz a great opportunity to keep creating distance.
What’s standing out for the Nuggets lately is their sudden improvement defensively. Those who’ve followed my prior posts know I picked Denver to win the Conference and said if they could improve to the top 15 defensively that could equate to them raising the Larry O’B.
To that end, in the last 15 games Denver has delivered the sixth-best defensive effort. It’s understandable they took a while to find their mojo given the new additions and reintegrating Murray and Porter Jr. from their time off due to injury.
Winning on both ends of the hardwood
It’s no secret the Nuggets were already rolling offensively, and their stats highlight that fact ranking fifth in scoring averaging 117.0 points per game, and is highly efficient shooting the second-best percentage from the field 50.9%, and the highest perimeter percentage 40.0%.
Denver ranks 15th for opponent scoring allowing 113.2 points while limiting foes to 48.0% from the field and 35.4% from deep ranking 24th and 11th.
Bruce Brown (thumb sprain) and Jamal Murray are probable while Nikola Jokic (wrist) is questionable. Peyton Watson (groin), Jeff Green (hand fracture), and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.
LA Clippers
After six consecutive losses, the Clippers got back into the win column riding Kawhi Leonard’s best scoring effort (33 points) of the season. It was also the first time he’s been able to log 36 minutes for two games in a row.
Paul George missed his third consecutive game nursing a sore hamstring but Norm Powell stepped up in his absence offering 27 points.
Stats
To begin with they sit 28th for scoring averaging 109.2 points per game shooting 46.1% from the field and 36.9% from the perimeter ranking 23rd and ninth respectively.
Important to realize, defensively, the Clippers’ opponents average 110.0 points per game which is the fourth lowest overall while allowing opponents to shoot 46.1% from the field (5th) and possess the best perimeter defense holding opponents to 34.1% from deep.
So far, Paul George (knee) and Luke Kennard (calf) are out Friday.
