An afternoon match on Sunday, December 22nd finds the Dallas Mavericks in the 6ix to play the Toronto Raptors as both clubs enter missing key players and desirous of navigating a tough schedule without them in the mix. This is the second meeting between the clubs who first played November 16th with the Mavericks winning 110-102.
Last season, the teams played twice with Toronto sweeping the series. The Mavericks hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 26 of their 46 matches

Through three games of this tough schedule segment playing without their star Luka Doncic the Mavericks haven’t just hung in they’ve bested two of the East’s top seeds.
The 76ers had only a single loss on their homecourt prior to the Mavericks winning there and the victory over the Bucks ended their 18 game unbeaten streak.

Not that any injury is ever a good thing, but in hindsight, the timing of it could be netting dividends for the Mavericks and in particular Kristaps Porzingis who was still playing somewhat tentative prior to Doncic going down.
Without the superstar in the lineup, Porzingis is playing with more urgency knowing he needs to step up and fill the massive void. Through three games Porzingis is averaging 23.7 points, 14.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals. In the win over the 76ers his 22 point, 18 rebound double-double featured a career-high in rebounding.
Tim Hardaway Jr. led the scoring with 27 points, while four teammates reached double-digits including the trio of Jalen Brunsen, Seth Curry, and Dorian Finney-Smith who scored 11 points and Maxi Kleber who added 10.
Seth Curry (lower back tightness) and Delon Wright (right pinky sprain) are both listed as questionable but expected to suit up Sunday. Doncic injured ankle is projected to keep him out until late this month.
Toronto Raptors
Throughout the 2019-20 campaign, the defending champions have dealt with injuries surviving 11 and 10 games without Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka and recently five games without Fred VanVleet.
But, this current hit losing Pascal Siakam (groin), Norman Powell (shoulder) and Marc Gasol (hamstring) simultaneously comes at a particularly tough time in the schedule.
Still, this is a scrappy crew who will pull upon the ‘next man up’ adage and increase Chris Boucher, Terence Davis, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson minutes until the core trio can return.
Fortunately, VanVleet returned for the win over the Wizards and didn’t show much rust collecting 18 points, eight assists, and nine rebounds. The vets stepped up to lead the Raptors with Lowry scoring a team-high 26 points along with nine assists.
Serge Ibaka factored with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. OG Anunoby (18), Hollis-Jefferson (14) and Patrick McCaw (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Aside from the core trio missing Stanely Johnson (groin) and Matt Thomas (broken finger) are also out.
