This New Years Eve match-up will see the Dallas Mavericks take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks lost their last game to the Los Angeles Clippers and are just a modest 5-5 over their last 10 games. For the time being, they are the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

Over the course of the season, the Mavericks have had one of the most explosive offenses in the league. They are the 3rd highest scoring offense an average 116.8 points per game. In terms of shooting, the are 12th in the league, averaging 46% from the field.
Their three-point shooting however is the 6th best in the league as they are averaging 36.7%.
There is no question that leading the way for Dallas is Luka Doncic. He is leading the team in points, averaging 28.8 per game. Also, Doncic leads the team in assists with 9 per game and rebounds with 9.5 boards per game.
The main issue is Doncic is listed as questionable for this game. He was forced to depart in the last game with a left wrist sprain and a back contusion. Their second highest scorer is Kristaps Porzingis, who averages 17.3 points per game.
Unlike their offense, the Dallas defense is only average. They allow 108.9 points per game, the 15th best scoring defense. Teams shoot 44.5% from the field, but only 33.9% from the three-point line.
Slowing down all of Oklahoma City’s players is going to be a tough task, so they need to at least slow down a couple to have a chance on the road.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder find themselves playing extremely well, having won two in a row and six of their last seven. Because of their recent success, the Thunder find themselves as the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
Offensively, the Thunder have overall been sub-par, averaging just 108.3 points per game. This gives the 20th ranked scoring offense in the league. However, during their 6-1 stretch, they are averaging 111.1 points per game.
They do shoot the ball extremely well, averaging 46.8% from the field. This is the 7th best shooting percentage in the NBA.
Their leading scorer is still Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who averages 19.8 points per game. Dennis Schroder is right behind him and is averaging 18.4 points per game.
Then throw in Danilo Gallinari, who averages 18 points per game and Chris Paul, who averages 16.6 points per game you have a Thunder team that are truly one of the most balanced teams in the league. This does not even include Steven Adams, who averages 11.6 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game, while also providing a presence in the low post.
Defensively, the Thunder are above average. They are allowing 107.5 points per game, the 11th best scoring defense in the NBA. They allow teams to shoot 45.7% from the field and have the 5th ranked three point defense, allowing 33.7% from deep range.
The number one key to the Thunder winning this game is slowing down Luka Doncic. That is assuming he is going to play in this game. If he does play, he will likely not be 100% and the Thunder need to take advantage.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Home team is 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
- Oklahoma City are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- Dallas are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games.
