Cavaliers vs. Raptors Gameday
Game 4 between the #4 Cleveland Cavaliers and #5 Toronto Raptors occurs on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., with the hometown team looking to even up the series.
Toronto got into the series by taking Game 3, behind a breakout final frame featuring reserve Jamieson Battle connecting on all four of his 3-point attempts. Toronto won 126-104.
Six Cavs scored in double figures, led by James Harden with 18 points on 5 of 13 shooting, while he dished four dimes and grabbed four rebounds but had eight turnovers. Donovan Mitchell had a rough night, scoring just 15 points on 7 of 16 shooting.
Scottie Barnes was masterful defending Harden while also leading his team with a double-double of 33 points and 11 assists, plus five rebounds and two stocks. RJ Barrett also scored 33 points, and the team shot 57% from the field and 61% from the perimeter.

Head-to-head this season, the Raptors swept the Cavaliers 3-0, but learned quickly in Game 1 that the Cavs are a very different team with James Harden in the lineup.

Most pundits called the Raptors’ victory an outlier and expect the Cavs to win easily on Saturday, but perhaps they are missing a few keys.
Brandon Ingram has yet to produce a typical game, and you have to wonder if he’ll get more room on Saturday as the Cavs look to limit Barnes and Barrett. Certainly, the Raptors won’t shoot 61% from the perimeter again, but they’ve definitely figured something out, which I think is being downplayed.
Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles has risen to the challenge, and his ability to work with Barnes defending is causing major problems for the Cavs both in the paint and on the floor.

Here is my Cavaliers Raptors free pick.
Barnes was everywhere on the court in the victory and showcased why he should be considered for All-NBA as he led the team on both sides of the floor.
The defense that the Raptors displayed all season was back, with Barnes and Murray-Boyles a big reason why. The question is whether they can continue to disrupt the Cavs backcourt and whether James Harden will struggle like he has when things get tight in the postseason.
Toronto was hoping Immanuel Quickley would make a return in the series, but he tweaked the hamstring in his efforts to return and will probably miss the entire series now.
The key for the Raptors is holding opponents under 120 points. When they do they win and when they don’t they lose.
Pace remains the biggest key for Toronto, which lost when it didn’t control it and won once it did. Barnes took over the point guard duties in Game 3 and will do so again in Game 4, with Shead entering off the bench.
Turnovers have been a key in all the games, with Toronto losing when they had more miscues and the Cavs losing in Game 3 with 22 turnovers that led to 23 Raptors points. Whichever team protects the ball will have the edge in Game 4.
Perhaps all the pundits are correct, and the Cavs will bounce right back, but I still believe the Raptors touched on something with Barnes pushing pace and his (plus CMB and JaKobe Walter’s) defense of the Cavs backcourt.
With the anticipated tweaks Cleveland should make to their game plan to address Barnes and Barrett, I think it will benefit Brandon Ingram, who is due for a breakout performance. Also, after three blowout wins, we’re due for a close game.
For these reasons, I’ll take the Raptors and the points.
