Chicago Bulls
Chicago started the season getting crushed by Atlanta and Indiana before losing a close one to Golden State before finally getting a victory over winless Washington.
Zach LaVine leads the team in scoring at over 23 points per game. Lauri Markkanen comes next at over 17 (on nearly 48 percent from three).
Coby White, Wendell Carter, Otto Porter and Patrick Williams are also netting double-digits through the first four games of the season.
The Bulls also have Denzel Valentine, who suffered a season-ending injury last year and has been in and out of the lineup already this season with hamstring trouble.
While the Bulls have some scoring punch, they could use more guys to make plays for others, rebound and defend. That’s what a healthy Valentine would bring to the table.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks won 52 of their first 60 games last season, which didn’t earn them as much as home-court advantage in the playoffs.
They are not off to the same roaring start this season. Milwaukee lost a close game in the opener to Boston and has since alternated blowout wins and losses.
The Bucks destroyed Golden State and Miami with losses at New York and at Miami.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is trying to do something this season that only three other men in NBA history have done before and that’s win three consecutive MVP awards.
Larry Bird was the last one of the three to do it in the mid-80s. Bill Russell was the first in the early 60s and his rival Wilt Chamberlain did it in the late 60s.
So far, the Greek Freak is averaging over 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game — down from his numbers a season ago, at least in the scoring and rebounding categories.
Individual numbers aren’t Giannis’ priority. He must continue to integrate Jrue Holiday into the team and gel with players who can push the Bucks over the top this season — guys like third-year pro Donte DiVincenzo, who is averaging a new career-high 14 points per game.
