Friday, December 16th, the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors meet for the final time this season. Brooklyn won all three prior matches including on October 21st (109-105), November 23rd (112-98), and December 2nd (114-105).
Brooklyn enters with the major rest advantage having last played Monday in a 112-100 victory versus the Wizards while the Raptors last played Wednesday losing a 123-124 heartbreaker to the Kings.

Kevin Durant (30 points, nine rebounds, six assists) and Kyrie Irving (24 points, six rebounds, five assists, a steal, and two blocks) combined to score almost half the Nets’ points in the victory against the Wizards.
Brooklyn allows 110.9 points per game ranking eighth and possesses the fifth-best opponent field goal percentage of 45.3%. Their perimeter defense is another story as foes shoot 37.9% from deep ranking 29th overall.
Brooklyn scores 112.5 points per game (18th). They own the second-best field goal percentage, shooting 49.9%, and rank seventh on the perimeter (37.0%).
Patty Mills (illness) is doubtful and Seth Curry (hamstring) is questionable.
Toronto Raptors
The loss to the Kings was unfortunate as it was one of the few times this season when both Fred VanVleet and Scottie Barnes had strong offensive games.
VanVleet delivered 39 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a block while Barnes had a near triple-double of 27 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists, and a block.
On offense, the Raptors score 111.3 points per game (19th) shooting 45.0% from the field (27th) and 32.3% from deep (28th). Defensively, the Raptors allow 110.5 opponent points per game ranking (7th) while they shoot 48.4% (27th) from the field and 35.4% from deep (15th).
O.G. Anunoby (hip), Precious Achiuwa (ankle), and Otto Porter Jr. (toe dislocation) are all out.

Toronto is definitely in a funk and their struggles could be as simple as the team needing to get fully healthy. For example, the three players on the injured list are arguably the team’s best perimeter shooters compounding the Raptors issues from deep.
Revisit the Kings game and notice how much more fluid Toronto was on offense when Barnes ran the point. Couple that with VanVleet forcing his own offense and how his choice to call his own number ground the Raptors’ offense to a standstill.
VanVleet wants to re-sign at the max so you have to wonder if Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster are asking if it might be better to trade VanVleet now and move forward with the Barnes era. Keep an eye on them as the trade deadline draws nearer.
As for the Nets, while Durant is otherworldly, I question Brooklyn being as good as their record based on a lack of depth and the neverending off court drama.
The parity of this season makes the situation more confounding, particularly in the East. Toronto has plummeted four spots to 10th (in under a week) while the Nets sit fourth but the teams are only separated by 3.5 games.
Toronto really missed Anunoby in the Kings game which likely is a win if he’s available and while Brooklyn is up 3-0 in this series you have to believe the Raptors take at least one game in this series.
