The Miami Heat have been on of the hotter teams in the NBA over the past two weeks as the team continues winning games, and their last outing was no different.
Miami beat Detroit 116-103, but the Brooklyn Nets haven’t been as lucky, coming away on the losing end of a 129-109 point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Brooklyn Nets just continue being one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They give up triple digit scoring totals on the regular, while teams have been getting into the 120-point range almost nightly, and that’s not going to get you many wins.

They gave up 33 points to Minnesota in only just the first quarter, and Brooklyn trailed the rest of the game after that. The Timberwolves outplayed them in every quarter, allowing them to come away out on top 129-109.
That’s an unreal amount of points given up too such a weak offensive team.
If Brooklyn plans to stop losing anytime soon they got to start defending better. The Timberwolves are a team that has trouble scoring sometimes, yet they dropped 129 points on the Nets.
That just isn’t a recipe for winning many games.

So if Brooklyn can play with more effort on that end, they’ll have a chance at beating a streaking Miami Heat club. But again, defense is going to be what ultimately allows them to do that.
Miami Heat
The Miami Heat have now won seven games in a row after they beat the Detroit Pistons in their last outing 116-103.
After coming out of the gates with somewhat of a lackadaisical effort (gave up 33 points to Detroit in only the first quarter) Miami started to clamp down defensively, especially in the fourth quarter.
Miami held Detroit to just 12 points in the final frame, and because of that they were able to pull away ahead. However, it isn’t their defense that’s been so impressive.
Offensively the teams started to come together and gel. Dion Waiter and Goran Dragic have started to figure out how to play alongside each other.
Against Detroit they put up 23 points and 17 points. That’s far better then how they were doing earlier on in the season, so it’s starting to look like they have a better understanding of what each other want to do out on the court.
And there is no better team to test that against then Brooklyn. The Nets have a terrible defensive unit, so if Dion and Goran can expose that early they’ll be able to pull away ahead.

Brooklyn has a tendency to try outscoring teams, so if Miami can outplay them on both ends they’ll extent that winning streak to eight games instead of seven.
