No team has looked better in the first week of the season than the Brooklyn Nets.
They play in Charlotte Sunday before returning home for the second night of a back-to-back at the Barclay’s Center.
Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn took down Golden State by 26 on Opening Night Wednesday and blew-out Boston by 28 on Christmas.
Kyrie Irving torched his old team for 37 points on 13-of-21 from the field and one turnover. He added eight assists and six rebounds to his line.
Kevin Durant had 29 on 9-of-16 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line. He turned it over just twice.
In fact, the Nets turned it over just 15 times as a team against Boston and Caris LeVert had seven of them in 18 minutes off the bench (he also shot 5-of-8 for 10 points).
It’s hard not to jump to conclusions when assessing this team. Its two stars are healthy and already playing with chemistry together. It also has a long list of quality role players who appear eager to play supporting roles.
They may get a chance to put up some numbers in this spot, if they prove they can handle the Hornets without much Irving and/or Durant.
Head Coach Steve Nash would certainly be happy to spread the minutes out with a home game scheduled Monday night against Memphis.
Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte will be on a back-to-back in this spot after a Boxing Day game against the Thunder.
The Hornets lost their first game of the season against the Cavaliers, 121–114, despite a big game from Terry Rozier.
The former Louisville Cardinal made 10-of-16 from three and finished with 42 points. Gordon Hayward scored 28 in his first regular season game as a Hornet.
Devonte’ Graham did not shoot well from outside but still finished with 10 points and 10 assists. Bismack Biyombo went 5-of-5 from the field and playing his typical good defense off the bench.
From there, Charlotte got little positive contribution from the rest of its players.
Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball struggled shooting the ball off the bench and PJ Washington finished a team-worst -17 in the starting lineup.
