Wednesday, December 28th the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks meet for the second of four scheduled matches this season. The Nets won the initial December 9th match 120-116. Atlanta will host again on February 26th while the Nets will host the final meeting on March 31st.
The Nets last played Monday defeating the Cavaliers 125-117 while the Hawks are completing a back-to-back set having lost 114-129 to the Pacers on Tuesday.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Nets taking two of the three contests. The Hawks hold the all-time record with 103 wins in 188 matches.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Tuesday evening, December 27th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Wednesday, December 28th.
Brooklyn Nets
Although I’ve had my doubts about this Nets squad they continue to pile up wins and currently have the longest active win streak with nine in a row.
Kevin Durant has been spectacular during the streak (he missed the match versus the Pacers) averaging 30.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals.
His efficiency during the streak is impressive while shooting 59.3% from the field (18.8 attempts), a ridiculous 46.5% from deep (5.4 attempts), and 95.7% from the line (5.6 attempts).
We’re talking the elusive 50-40-90 here fans and while he’s under that for the season, it’s not by much.
Brooklyn allows 111.3 points per game ranking eighth and possesses the fifth-best opponent field goal percentage of 45.6%. Their perimeter defense has been troublesome all season with the 37.0% ranking 27th overall.
Brooklyn scores 114.4 points per game (14th). They own the best percentages both from the field shooting 51.0% and from the perimeter (39.1%).
Seth Curry (illness) was upgraded to probable while Joe Harris (knee) is downgraded to out for Wednesday. David Duke Jr., Kessler Edwards, Day’Ron Sharpe, and Alondes Williams are all on G League assignment.
Atlanta Hawks
With the loss to the Pacers on Tuesday, the Hawks have dropped to ninth in the East with a two-game margin over the Raptors who also lost on Tuesday.
Atlanta had lost 8 of 11 but seemed to turn a corner winning three of four until the loss to Indy. Yet, it might be a bit of smoke and mirrors because the three wins were all against lower-tier teams (Hornets, Magic, Pistons) and their first true competition resulted in the loss.
Four of the five starters scored in double-figures with John Collins (26 points, 10 rebounds) and Trae Young (22 points, 10 assists) both serving up double-doubles.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (18) and Dejounte Murray (14) offered the other double-digit scores.
Atlanta ranks 13th in scoring, averaging 114.6 points per game while they shoot 46.7%, from the field and 33.4% from the perimeter ranking 19th and 27th respectively.
On defense, opponents score 115.3 points ranking 20th while foes register 47.3% field goal percentage and 34.2% perimeter percentage ranking 18th and sixth respectively.
Trae Young tweaked his ankle Tuesday making him uncertain for Wednesday joining three other teammates De’Andre Hunter (undisclosed) Clint Capela (calf) and Jarrett Culver (illness) who are all questionable.

Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
While the Nets have seemingly resolved all their issues (for now) the Hawks are another matter completely. The addition of Murray hasn’t paid the dividends Atlanta hoped for.
More concerning is the ongoing drama with star Trae Young who is having a terrible season shooting career-worst percentages from everywhere but the charity stripe and is embroiled in constant friction with the head coach Nate McMillan.
Easy to see figure out which way I’m leaning — Nets to win and cover.
