Last season, the teams played three times with the Celtics sweeping the series. The Celtics hold the all-time record having bested the Wizards in 192 of their 306 matches

The Celtics enter this match having won four in a row despite playing the last two matches without their star Kemba Walker who is suffering from the flu.

The most recent win found the Celtics defeating the Chicago Bulls in a tightly contested battle by a score of 111-104. Jayson Tatum led the way with a team high 28 points and seven rebounds. Enes Kanter added a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Gordon Hayward (24) and Jaylen Brown (19) were the other double-digit contributors.
On the season, Kemba Walker is the team leader in scoring (22.5) and assists (5.2). Jaylen Brown tops the rebound (7.1) and field goal percent (52.1%) categories. The hustle categories are lead by Jayson Tatum who tops steals (1.4) and Daniel Theis who leads for blocks (1.5).

While the Wizards had to play their last two matches with their star Bradley Beal they were able to win the last match versus the Denver Nuggets 128-114.
In the victory, the injury riddled club was led by Ish Smith who scored a team high 32 points. Troy Brown Jr. delivered a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds.
The quartet of Isaac Bonga (15), Anzejs Pasecniks (13), Johnathan Williams (12) and Jordan McRae (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
In the first meeting against Boston, Bradley Beal was magnificent delivering 44 points but he remains questionable for this match.
On the season Beal leads the team in scoring (27.8) and assists (6.6). Rui Hachimura posts 48.2% field goal percentage, Troy Brown Jr. tops rebounds (5.7) and steals (1.3) while Davis Bertans tops the blocks (0.6) category.
The list of walking wounded runs eight deep. In addition to Beal, Ian Mahinmi (finger) is questionable.
The quartet of Davis Bertans (right quadriceps strain), Rui Hachimura (groin contusion), Moritz Wagner (ankle) and Thomas Bryant (stress reaction, right foot) are all out with varying January return dates.
CJ Miles underwent surgery to repair a left wrist ligament injury and like John Wall who is out rehabbing from a ruptured Achilles tendon will miss the rest of the season.
