Game two is in the books, and now the teams change venues. Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Playoffs between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics is the opening event on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Philly came back from a double-digit deficit in Game 2 to win 111-97 as the Celtics went cold and fell in love with the perimeter. Only two Celtics finished with double-figures as Jaylen Brown scored 36 points while Jayson Tatum delivered a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds plus nine assists.
Philly’s backcourt led the way for the Sixers as VJ Edgecombe offered 30 points, including six triples plus added 10 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey scored 29 points and added nine assists.

It cost them Game 2 and home court advantage, while the biggest mistake they made was letting VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey get wide-open perimeter shots.
It resulted in the Sixers’ backcourt feasting, and now they come home for two contests feeling confident with the knowledge that Joel Embiid has begun physical work to get ready for a return to the court.

Here is my Celtics 76ers free pick.
The Celtics love to give their fanbase anxiety by getting up large (usually by 20 or more points) and then relaxing. When opponents erase the deficit as they are wont to do, without the same focus from Boston, they try to get the points back all at once
The common denominator is that the Celts resort to the perimeter, and instead of doing what they did to get the lead, just fire away from deep. In Game 2, that equated to them hoisting 50 perimeter shots, of which they connected on 13 (or 26%).
Combine that with how they allowed Maxey and Edgecombe to get unimpeded looks from deep (almost daring them to score), and it’s easy to see why they lost Game 2.
Boston is 22-26 in games where they shoot under 38% from the perimeter and 38-1 when they shoot over 38% from deep.
So, it was a wakeup call for Boston, who will enter this match focused and perhaps a little embarrassed. Which is why I’m looking for them to jump on Philly from the tip, but this time they’ll keep up the pressure for closer to 48 minutes.
Still, it’s a bit of an unknown how the Sixers will perform now that they have a swagger and believe they can win. Certainly, Boston is going to have to do a better job defending the 76ers’ backcourt, but they have the defense to be successful, so I’ll take the Celtics to win and cover.
