The Celtics played the Pacers in Indianapolis Sunday night. They’ll play the Pacers in Indianapolis Tuesday, too.
What are they doing on Monday night? I don’t have the answer to that question — sterilizing the arena, perhaps. Then again, sterilizing it for whom? I’m sorry I ever asked.
Boston Celtics
Indiana won in the final ten seconds Sunday. Domantas Sabonis scored a layup, plus a foul (he missed the free throw), to put the Pacers up for good, 108–107.
Each team had a 25-point scorer, Jayson Tatum (who missed the potential game-winner at the buzzer) for Boston and Malcolm Brogdon for Indiana.
Jaylen Brown hit for 18 and Payton Pritchard, the 26th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, had the first double-digit scoring game of his career with 13 points on 5-for-5 from the field.
The Celtics shot 50 percent from the field in large part because of Pritchard and Robert Williams, who went 6-for-7 himself off the bench.
Otherwise, it was a quiet night for the Celtics, offensively. The trio of Brogdon, TJ Warren and Aaron Holiday on the Celtics’ perimeter game, which they are so dependent.
Indiana Pacers
Victor Oladipo plays good defense, too. The only reason he wasn’t mentioned above is because he sat out in order to help his body ease back into action.
Remember, he’s still less than a year removed from another serious injury and, though he tried to come back and play last season, he never really got a good long rehab period.
Oladipo should play in this game and give the Pacers even more perimeter defense to work with.
Boston, meanwhile, can do a good enough job in limiting Indiana’s post scorers, Sabonis and Myles Turner, with their trio of Daniel Theis, Tristan Thompson and Williams.
