On Friday, January 22nd, Inter-Conference foes will meet as the Atlanta Hawks and the Minnesota Timberwolves will face off for the second time this week. Atlanta won the first matchup at home by a score of 108-97 and were led by Trae Young (20 points, 13 assists, 8 rebounds), Clint Capela (23 points, 15 rebounds), and De’Andre Hunter (25 points, 4 rebounds).
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks had a nice offseason, acquiring a few players they hope will help this team make its first postseason appearance in 4 years. Early in the season Atlanta sits at 7-7 which lands them in the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta is led by reigning 22 year old All-Star starter Trae Young who has struggled out of the gate shooting below 40% from the field and 30% from 3. Regardless of this shooting slump he has managed to average 24 ppg along with 9 apg. Clint Capela has played well in his center role averaging a double double with 14.3 ppg and 14.2 rpg.
The injuries have begun to pile up for the Hawks as they are down several starters and quality role players. Danilo Gallinari, Cam Reddish, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Kris Dunn are all out for Friday and De’Andre Hunter is listed as questionable. This will leave the team short handed and require elevated play as well as several bench players needing to step up in their absences.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota has had a rough beginning to the season as they find themselves last in the Western Conference at 3-10. The Timberwolves began the season with a two-game winning streak, before losing seven straight games. After finally ending the streak with a win over San Antonio, the Timberwolves lost their last three games to Memphis, Atlanta, and Orlando on a buzzer beater at home. That leaves Minnesota with losses in 9 of their last 10 games with 7 of those losses coming by more than 7 points.
Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns is out after testing positive for COVID-19, the diseases that has had a serious impact on his life after taking his mother and several other members in his family within the past year. The team has gone 2-2 with Town in the lineup and 1-8 without. Ricky Rubio and forward Juancho Hernangomez were placed in quarantine last Friday as well and remain out.
Minnesota weakness has been on the defensive end as the Timberwolves are allowing an average of 116.2 points per game which is 27th in the NBA.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
This is a matchup between two young teams who are both dealing with injuries as well as players on the COVID protocol list leaving each lineup very depleted. Whichever team can find production from their usual bench players will have the advantage in this one.
The Hawks’s rank middle of the pack offensively (13th) and defensively (11th) which should play in their favor as he Timberwolves weakness is there defense especially with big man Karl-Anthony Towns no longer patrolling the paint. Atlanta had Minnesota’s number earlier in the week and look for that to continue Friday night.
