Friday, January 14th, finds the Atlanta Hawks facing the Miami Heat in their second meeting of this season in a home and home series with Miami/Atlanta winning on Wednesday. The squads will play twice more with Atlanta hosting January 21st and Miami on April 8th,
Both teams are playing the front side of a back-to-back set having played each other Wednesday with the Heat taking the first game 115-91. Atlanta will play the Knicks on Saturday while the Heat faces the 76ers.
Atlanta Hawks
The big news in Atlanta was the trade of Cam Reddish to the Knicks. The rest of the deal features Kevin Knox and Charlotte’s 2022 first-round pick coming to Atlanta while Solomon Hill joins Reddish going to New York along with a 2025 second-round pick.
Nate McMillan was back on the bench after missing games in protocol and in his return found his charges had done little to improve defensively. Atlanta was back home after a six-game road trip where they amassed a 2-4 record. They’ll play 10 of the next 12 at home looking to turn around their season.
Trade rumors continue to swirl with the recent rumors suggesting Atlanta is keen to be in the Ben Simmons sweepstakes. John Collins who led the Hawks with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds is one of the names being whispered as a potential asset to move in this potential trade.
Trae Young scored 15 points but struggled from deep (3 of 11). Bogdan Bogdanovic and DeAndre Hunter each scored 15 points as the other double-digit contributors. The latter was back from missing two months due to a wrist injury.
Atlanta has just four wins in their last 15 games and is on a current three-game losing streak.
Clint Capela (ankle), and Jalen Johnson (ankle) are questionable for Friday.
Miami Heat
The Heat finished their six-game road trip with the win in Atlanta and registered a 4-1 record from the journey as they return home now to host the Hawks. Although it was a close first half the Heat pulled away after the break to bury the Hawks.
Tyler Herro delivered a double-double of 21 points and 11 assists. Rookie Omer Yurtseven also produced a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds plus six assists and marked the 12th consecutive game he’s achieved double-digit rebounds.
Jimmy Butler (ankle), Marcus Garrett (conditioning), and KJ Okpala (wrist) are all questionable for Friday. Bam Adebayo (thumb), Markieff Morris (neck), and Victor Oladipo (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
The Hawks defense needs massive upgrades and will hope Hunter’s return will aid in that effort. But with so many of the current roster being dangled as potential trade assets is it even conceivable these players will be invested in going the extra mile defensively when Young prefers to only play on one side of the court?
Conversely, the Heat who’ve missed their best two defenders for large portions of the season haven’t skipped a beat with everyone who gets playing time committing to Erik Spoelstra’s complex defense and that should result in yet another victory.
