Tuesday, December 27th, the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers play the first of three scheduled meetings. Indy will host again on January 13th while Atlanta will host the final match between the teams on March 25th.
Atlanta got a nice long rest last playing Friday pummelling the Pistons 130-105 while the Pacers are at a major rest disadvantage completing a back-to-back set after experiencing a 93-113 beat down versus the Pelicans Monday.
Last season, the teams played four times with the Hawks sweeping the regular season series. The Hawks have won 107 of the 201 matches played versus the Pacers all-time.
Atlanta Hawks
After missing three games Clint Capella made his return to the lineup on Friday but he’s back out again on Tuesday per the official injury report which indicates his calf injury isn’t healing as quickly as the team hoped.
After registering just three wins in their last nine matches and dealing with internal adversity getting to face the tanking Pistons allowed the Hawks to have a more robust offensive effort.
Both Trae Young (26 points, 13 assists) and Capela (10 points, 10 rebounds) posted double-doubles. Dejounte Murray who also missed time recently filled up the stat sheet with 26 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Bogdan Bogdanovic chipped in 19 points and Onyeka Okongwu offered 12 points as the other double-figure contributors.
Atlanta ranks 12th in scoring, averaging 114.6 points per game while they shoot 46.7%, from the field and 33.2% from the perimeter ranking 17th and 27th respectively.
On defense, opponents score 114.9 points ranking 18th while foes register 47.2% field goal percentage and 34.1% perimeter percentage ranking 17th and fourth respectively.
De’Andre Hunter left the last match for an undisclosed reason he and (Vit Krejci (ankle) are questionable for Tuesday. Clint Capela (calf) was downgraded to out and Jarrett Culver (illness) is out indefinitely.
Indiana Pacers
The Cinderella team of the East has been dealing with regressing to the mean losing six of their last 10 matches. They got blown out by the undermanned Pelicans on Monday and have the rest disadvantage versus a Hawks squad who’ve been idle since Friday.
Rookie Bennedict Mathurin was the high scorer for the Pacers with 15 but Tyrese Haliburton who dropped a career-best 43 in the last match versus the Heat but was the focus of the Pelicans’ defense Monday and limited to 12 points.
The Pacers average 114.6 points per game ranking 13th while shooting 45.8% from the field and 37.0% from the perimeter which ranks 25th and 10th respectively. Defensively, Indy allows 115.2 points which rank 20th while these opponents shoot 46.5% from the field and 36.4% from the perimeter ranking 12th and 21st.
Aaron Nesmith (ankle) and Jalen Smith (ankle) returned to action Monday and are listed as available for Tuesday. Kendall Brown (tibia fracture), and Daniel Theis (knee) are out indefinitely. Trevelin Queen is on G League assignment.

Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction:
Although the Pacers are a club that loves to surprise playing on consecutive nights versus a team who’ve had three full days off is a major benefit for the Hawks.
That said, the oddsmakers favor Indiana albeit by only a single point, and since one of their best traits is rebounding from poor efforts I like them to win and cover.
