These two teams played in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening. The arena will get a good deep cleaning and the Hawks and Nets will do battle again, this time in 2021.
Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta shot 47.5 percent from the field on Wednesday, turned it over only a dozen times and scored 141 points.
But the Nets were better. Brooklyn shot 54 percent and turned it over just eight times in a 145–141 victory.
Trae Young and John Collins had 30 points apiece for the Hawks, who were 3–0 previous to the loss at Barclays Center.
Cam Reddish had 20 points and Bogdan Bogdanovich had 22 on 6-for-11 from beyond the three-point arc. Rajon Rondo had six dimes in 16 minutes of playing time.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets had lost two in a row — against the Hornets and Grizzlies — after starting with a couple of wins against the Warriors and Celtics.
So their victory over Atlanta snapped a losing streak and got Brooklyn back over .500.
Joe Harris joined Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving as a big scorer in the starting lineup with 23 points.
Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, Taurean Prince and Landry Shamet all had double-digits off the bench.
That entire group of role players must play even better now that Spencer Dinwiddie has been ruled out for the season after partially tearing his right ACL against Memphis.
Dinwiddie won’t be replaced. He offered the Nets tremendous backcourt depth and versatility that they will sorely miss.
It also is not known how well Dinwiddie will return from the injury, personally. He slipped to the second round in the 2014 NBA Draft because he tore his left ACL late in the college basketball season.
