NASCAR Handicapping
The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas this weekend following Carson Hocevar’s first career victory a week ago at Talladega. Tyler Reddick remains the clear leader in the drivers’ standings through 10 races.
Intermediate Track Strategy & Betting Edge
First off, Texas is a completely different challenge compared to Talladega.
Instead of chaos and drafting packs, this track rewards raw speed, tire management, and long-run consistency. Because of that, the best cars tend to separate themselves over time rather than relying on last-lap luck.
As a result, this is one of the weeks where favorites deserve serious respect, especially drivers who consistently show speed on 1.5-mile tracks.
Why Texas Creates Sharper Betting Opportunities
At the same time, this type of track gives bettors a cleaner read.
Drivers who qualify well and maintain strong average running positions tend to stay near the front. Meanwhile, pit strategy and execution still matter, but they don’t completely flip the race the way they can at superspeedways.
Because of that, form and track history carry more weight here than randomness.
Last Year
It wasn’t to be for Michael McDowell this time around as his quest for a victory ended with four laps to go, opening the door for Joey Logano to take control of the race and claim his first victory of the season.
It was a satisfying result for Logano, who the week prior was disqualified from a fifth place finish at Talladega Superspeedway because of a missing nut on a spoiler bracket.
How the Race Flipped Late
In overtime, Logano outlasted runner-up Ross Chastain by a 0.346-second margin. It was Logano’s second career victory at Texas Motor Speedway, and the 37th win of his career.
Further to that, it was the first top-five finish of 2025 for Logano, who took the lead after a restart on Lap 245 of 271 and maintained that lead through two cautions and restarts. On Lap 264, he went low to avoid a block from McDowell and passed the No. 71 for the lead.
However, things only got worse from there for McDowell, who was passed for second by Logano’s Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney a lap later, then lost control in dirty air behind Blaney’s Ford and slammed into the Turn 2 wall, putting an end to his day in 26th place.
On the overtime restart, Logano had little trouble, clearing Blaney through the first two corners, while Chastain made a move into second from the bottom lane. Two laps later, Logano cruised to Victory Lane, making it two wins in a row for Team Penske after Austin Cindric’s win the previous Sunday at Talladega.
Logano had to navigate his way to the front from his 27th-place starting position. Notably, the back was a good place to start on this day, as Chastain had started 31st before moving into a second place finish on the closing laps.
Blaney was the third-place finisher, followed by Kyle Larson who led more laps than any driver on the day (90) before yielding the lead to McDowell on the Lap 245 restart. Erik Jones rounded out the top five.

2026 NASCAR Wurth 400 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +500
Hamlin’s a three-time winner here, so oddsmakers have appropriately tabbed him as the betting favorite this weekend.
He’s coming off consecutive poor results caused by incidents on the track, even missing out on a chance for a fourth Texas victory in 2024.
Our 2026 NASCAR Wurth 400 Free Pick is riding with one of the front-runners — sometimes chalk is the sharp move.
2026 NASCAR Wurth 400 Race Odds: Kyle Larson +550
This is the track type where Larson excels, so he figures to be a serious contender this weekend.
Larson finished second at Kansas, and seventh at Las Vegas in the two closest track comparisons thus far.
In addition to outright plays, top-10s and matchups offer sneaky ways to profit this week.
2026 NASCAR Wurth 400 Race Odds: Tyler Reddick +600
Reddick won here in 2022, and has spent the early part of this season winning half the races through 10 events.
NASCAR Odds: Joey Logano +2000
Logano’s won here twice, including in 2025.
NASCAR Odds: Austin Dillon +12500
Dillon offers one of the more interesting longshot profiles on the board this week.
Before you go heavy on one driver, remember that Texas rewards consistency more than chaos.
That’s why our 2026 NASCAR Wurth 400 Race Prediction balances favorites with value plays.

How to Bet NASCAR: Smart Angles for Intermediate Tracks
First off, this is where NASCAR betting starts to feel a little more predictable.
Unlike superspeedways, intermediate tracks reward speed and consistency. Because of that, you can trust form a lot more when building your card.
For starters, outrights carry more weight this week. However, that doesn’t mean you should go all-in on one name.
NASCAR Betting Types That Actually Make Money
Next, top-5 and top-10 bets are still key.
Because strong cars tend to stay near the front, these markets give you a cleaner path to cashing tickets.
Meanwhile, matchup bets are where sharp bettors find edges, especially when fading drivers who struggle on intermediate tracks.
Additionally, live betting can offer value if a fast car starts deep in the field and begins moving forward early.
At the end of the day, you’re not trying to hit one perfect bet — you’re trying to build a card that gives you multiple chances to win.
