NASCAR Handicapping
The NASCAR Cup Series rolls into Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for the Pennzoil 400, marking the next stop on the early-season calendar. Drivers will battle across one of the fastest intermediate tracks on the schedule, where long-run speed and tire management often determine the outcome.
Last weekend’s race finally snapped Tyler Reddick’s historic three-race winning streak to open the 2026 season. Ryan Blaney stepped up and delivered the victory, preventing Reddick from making an even bigger piece of NASCAR history.
With that win, Blaney now leads the Cup Series in Stage points and has cut into Reddick’s early-season points advantage. However, Reddick still holds a sizable lead thanks to his incredible start.
Now the series heads to Las Vegas for the first of two visits to Sin City this season. The second race here will arrive later in the playoffs, which makes this weekend an important data point for teams preparing for the championship stretch.
Last Year
The 2025 Pennzoil 400 delivered one of the biggest surprises of the season when Josh Berry captured his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory.
A restart with 19 laps remaining set up a dramatic battle between Berry and Daniel Suarez. The two drivers lined up side-by-side on Lap 249 of 267, and the fight continued for several laps before Berry finally cleared Suarez coming to the start/finish line on Lap 252.
Berry’s No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford fully secured the lead through the tri-oval on Lap 254 and began pulling away from the field.
From there, Berry steadily widened the gap and ultimately crossed the finish line 1.358 seconds ahead of the pack. The win ended Christopher Bell’s three-race winning streak and also snapped Hendrick Motorsports’ run of four consecutive victories at Las Vegas.
Kyle Larson, the defending race winner entering the event, dominated early by leading 61 laps and winning Stage 2. However, a pit stop following a Lap 195 caution forced him to restart deep in the field. By the end of the race he had recovered only to ninth.
Despite missing the win, Hendrick Motorsports still placed four drivers inside the top ten, with William Byron leading the group in fourth place.
The race featured 32 lead changes among 13 drivers, highlighting how competitive Las Vegas Motor Speedway can be. Berry’s victory also marked the 101st win in the long history of Wood Brothers Racing.

2026 NASCAR Pennzoil 400 Race Odds: Kyle Larson +475
Larson enters the weekend as the betting favorite, and for good reason. He has dominated this track over the past several seasons.
Across his last 10 starts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Larson has led an incredible 793 laps while winning three races. In addition, he has finished inside the top five six times and inside the top ten eight times.
Our 2026 NASCAR Pennzoil 400 Free Pick starts with one of the most reliable front-runners — sometimes chalk is simply the sharpest play.
2026 NASCAR Pennzoil 400 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +600
Hamlin has also experienced plenty of success at Las Vegas. Most recently, he captured the fall race here and continues to show strong form on intermediate tracks.
Over the last ten races at this venue, Hamlin has produced four top-five finishes and seven top-ten results.
Because of that consistency, he becomes a strong contender not only for the outright win but also for top-five and matchup betting opportunities.
2026 NASCAR Pennzoil 400 Race Odds: William Byron +1000
Byron continues to be one of the most consistent drivers in the Hendrick Motorsports lineup.
He owns four top-five finishes and seven top-ten finishes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, including a victory at this track earlier in his career.
NASCAR Odds: Joey Logano +1400
Logano has already proven he knows how to win in Las Vegas. He captured back-to-back victories here in 2019 and 2020.
With the Team Penske driver searching for another strong performance early in the season, this could be an ideal spot for a return to victory lane.
NASCAR Odds: Alex Bowman +3300
Bowman has made nine starts at Las Vegas and already owns a win at the track.
Although his recent results have been inconsistent, the Hendrick Motorsports driver could easily produce a bounce-back performance this weekend.
Before betting heavily on any one driver, remember to consider track history, current form, and team momentum. Intermediate tracks reward well-balanced cars that can maintain speed over long green-flag runs.
