The NASCAR Cup Series heads back to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, and that alone gives this weekend a different feel. The last Cup race here came in 2019, so bettors are not dealing with a normal track-history handicap.
This is a return race.
That matters because the current Cup car has never raced here in a points-paying event. Teams have some testing notes, simulator work, and older Chicagoland history, but nobody has a deep modern notebook under true race conditions.
The eero 400 also arrives with plenty happening around the series.
Shane van Gisbergen won last week at Sonoma, while Denny Hamlin moved past Tyler Reddick for the points lead. Hamlin now sits at 719 points, just ahead of Reddick at 718, with Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, and Kyle Larson rounding out the top 5.
That points battle adds pressure to the top of the board. Hamlin has momentum. Reddick has motivation. Larson has speed. That is a strong mix heading into a high-speed intermediate where tire wear, rhythm, and clean air should all matter.
Chicagoland Speedway Betting Strategy & NASCAR Edge
Chicagoland is a 1.5-mile tri-oval, but it has never been a cookie-cutter track from a betting perspective. The surface can wear tires, the racing line can move, and drivers who manage long-run speed usually rise toward the front.
That is why I am not treating this like a simple short-run speed race.
Practice speed will matter, but long-run averages may matter more. Drivers who can hold pace over a full fuel run should have a major edge, especially if track position becomes tough to regain late. High-tire-wear tracks usually reward drivers who can feel the car changing underneath them.
That puts extra focus on veterans like Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson, while still giving Tyler Reddick a strong case because of how well he has performed on fast 1.5-mile tracks this season.
The 2026 NASCAR eero 400 Race Prediction market should also create value. Some sportsbooks may price drivers too heavily off name value instead of current intermediate-track form.
Why the eero 400 Creates Betting Value
This betting board starts with Denny Hamlin as the favorite, and that makes sense. He has been excellent on high-speed intermediate tracks this season, and Chicagoland should fit what his team does well. The question is whether bettors want to lay a short price in a race with limited recent track data.
That is where things get interesting.
Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs, and William Byron all have enough speed to make this more than a 1-driver race. The top of the odds board is strong, but not untouchable.
I also think there are a few longer numbers worth watching. Corey Heim and Erik Jones both stand out as drivers with a path to outrun their prices if the race leans into tire management and long-run pace.
Neither needs to dominate the race from the opening stage to offer betting value. They just need the right setup, clean execution, and a chance late.
Why This Race Is Different
The biggest difference is obvious. Chicagoland has been gone from the Cup schedule for a long time. The last time NASCAR raced here, teams were working with a very different package. Now they return with modern setups, different data, and a field that has changed considerably since Alex Bowman won the 2019 race.
That makes old track history useful, but not automatic.
A driver who ran well here years ago still deserves attention, especially if he has also shown recent intermediate-track speed. But bettors should not blindly bet old Chicagoland results without checking current form.
This race is also Round 2 of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge.
Reddick losing as the No. 1 seed to Alex Bowman last week adds another layer to the weekend. Bowman now faces Austin Cindric, while Kyle Larson and William Byron meet in a Hendrick Motorsports showdown. Ty Gibbs and Chase Briscoe also square off in a Joe Gibbs Racing matchup.
Those tournament matchups may create extra aggression. At Chicagoland, that can be good or bad depending on when drivers choose to push.

Returning to Chicagoland means bettors can finally lean on a little bit of track history again. While the Next Gen car has never raced here in Cup competition, several veteran drivers still know what it takes to win or contend at this fast 1.5-mile oval.

It does, however, provide clues about which organizations traditionally unload with speed at Chicagoland.

2026 NASCAR eero 400 Race Odds: Denny Hamlin +325
Hamlin deserves to be the betting favorite.
Nobody has consistently performed better on high-speed intermediate tracks this season, and Chicagoland fits exactly the type of race where his experience and tire management become major advantages.
Darlington is probably the closest comparison on this year’s schedule because of the tire wear, and Hamlin has been outstanding on that style of track.
He has already posted a victory while averaging a series-best 4.2 finishing position across comparable races. His long-run speed has been excellent, and his crew continues making the right adjustments throughout an event.
Track history only strengthens the case.
Hamlin owns five top-7 finishes in his last six starts at Chicagoland, proving he has always understood how to race this facility.

2026 NASCAR eero 400 Race Odds: Tyler Reddick +600
If there is one driver capable of knocking Hamlin off the top step, Tyler Reddick may be the best candidate.
Losing the points lead last week should provide all the motivation he needs after leading the standings for much of the season.
Reddick has also been outstanding on intermediate tracks.
He already owns two victories on comparable 1.5-mile layouts this season while ranking second only to Hamlin in average finish on this track type. His combination of raw speed and tire conservation makes him dangerous whenever NASCAR visits a worn intermediate surface.
The added disappointment of losing in Round 1 of the In-Season Challenge should only increase his aggression.
At +600, Reddick remains one of my favorite alternatives to the favorite.
2026 NASCAR eero 400 Race Odds: Kyle Larson +700
Kyle Larson has to be part of every serious betting conversation this weekend.
Few drivers are as comfortable searching multiple grooves at worn intermediate tracks, and Chicagoland has always rewarded drivers who can move around the racing surface as tires begin to fade.
That plays directly into Larson’s strengths.
He finished second in both of the last 2 Cup races held at Chicagoland and has once again shown race-winning speed on comparable tracks this season. His runner-up finish at Kansas proved that Hendrick Motorsports continues bringing elite speed to the 1.5-mile circuits.
Another advantage shouldn’t be overlooked.
Larson participated in NASCAR’s Chicagoland tire and setup testing earlier this season, giving him valuable experience with the current Next Gen car on this surface before most of the field ever turns a competitive lap.
At +700, he offers plenty of value if you believe Hendrick unloads with speed.
NASCAR Odds: Corey Heim +5000
Corey Heim is one of my favorite longshot plays on the entire betting board.
His overall Cup résumé is still developing, but his performances on intermediate tracks continue improving every month. Heim also won at Darlington earlier this season and has consistently shown he understands how to manage tire wear over long green-flag runs.
That translates well to Chicagoland.
He also participated in NASCAR’s manufacturer wheel-force testing here during June, giving him valuable track time before race weekend officially begins.
At +5000, bettors don’t need Heim to dominate the afternoon.
They simply need him to put himself in contention entering the final stage, and that’s certainly within reach.
NASCAR Odds: Erik Jones +6000
Erik Jones feels slightly overlooked entering this weekend.
The Legacy Motor Club driver has quietly produced several strong runs on intermediate tracks this season while continuing to show better consistency than his odds suggest.
Chicagoland has also treated him well historically.
Jones finished sixth and seventh in his last 2 starts at this track before NASCAR left the facility, showing he understands how to build speed throughout a long race instead of burning up his tires too early.
That’s exactly the type of profile worth targeting at +6000.
Our final outright card includes Jones as another driver capable of dramatically outperforming his odds if strategy and long-run pace become the deciding factors.
Best Mid-Tier NASCAR Bets at Chicagoland Speedway
The middle section of the betting board is loaded with value this week.
Christopher Bell immediately stands out. His ability to adapt to changing track conditions makes him dangerous on any intermediate oval, and Joe Gibbs Racing has consistently shown race-winning speed throughout 2026.
William Byron deserves plenty of respect as well.
He continues producing solid finishes nearly every week, and Hendrick Motorsports has traditionally been one of the strongest organizations whenever NASCAR visits Chicagoland.
Chris Buescher is another driver worth watching.
He often gets overlooked by casual bettors, but his smooth driving style and ability to conserve tires make him a legitimate Top-5 threat if the race develops into a long-run battle.
Finally, Carson Hocevar continues showing tremendous upside.
The young driver has taken another step forward this season, and if qualifying goes well, he could become one of Sunday’s best value plays.
Longshot Drivers Worth a Smaller Look
Every NASCAR race seems to produce at least one surprise contender. This week, several deeper names deserve consideration. Joey Logano always becomes dangerous when strategy comes into play, while Brad Keselowski has enough Chicagoland experience to steal track position if cautions fall his way.
Austin Cindric is another interesting option.
His intermediate-track program has quietly improved, and Team Penske generally performs well on 1.5-mile tracks.
Ross Chastain also can’t be ignored. Aggressive driving has produced mixed results this season, but if he keeps the fenders clean, he has enough raw speed to challenge the leaders late in the race.
How Bettors Attack Chicagoland
The outright market gets most of the attention every NASCAR weekend, but Chicagoland offers several other bets that deserve a serious look.
This is a track where tire management and long-run speed often separate the contenders from the pretenders. A driver may qualify outside the top 10 yet steadily work his way forward as the race develops and competitors begin fighting worn tires.
That makes Top-5 and Top-10 wagers especially attractive.
Driver matchups also become more valuable at a track like this. If one driver consistently excels on high-wear intermediate tracks while another relies on short-run speed, the matchup can provide better value than the outright board.
Live betting should also be part of your strategy.
If a contender gets trapped by pit strategy early but continues posting some of the fastest lap times on older tires, sportsbooks often overreact to track position.
The fastest car doesn’t always lead the most laps at Chicagoland—but it often finishes there.
Weather Could Play a Bigger Role Than Expected
Illinois weather has always been unpredictable during the summer, and race-day conditions could have a noticeable impact on the betting board.
