The Washington Nationals will look for another unexpected series victory when they begin a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night at Coors Field.
Washington Nationals
Things looked grim for the Nationals as they headed into a weekend road series against one of the best teams in baseball on an eight-game losing streak, but Washington plated 28 total runs over three contests including an 11-spot in the rubber game to win the series impressively on the road.
The Nationals are still below average at the plate with 3.96 runs per game on a .645 team OPS. Washington pitching has really struggled with a 5.08 ERA that is the second-worst in the Majors, with the bullpen being more effective with a mark of 4.02.
Josh Bell continues to build on his 2021 breakout, batting .351/.457/.506 with 15 RBI and 13 runs scored to begin this season. Soto is performing as expected with an .867 OPS, 4 homers and 18 runs scored.
Washington remains well down on the money line this season while going just 9-15 on the run line. Overs are 10-12-2 for the Nationals after all three games against the Giants went over the betting total.
Colorado Rockies
Colorado has comfortably outperformed projections so far this season, and outscored lowly Cincinnati 24-8 during a three-game sweep over the weekend.
While playing in Coors Field warps their stats in all facets, the Rockies rank sixth in baseball with 4.79 runs per game on an MLB-best .770 OPS. Colorado pitching is near the bottom of the leaderboard with a 4.41 ERA although it has complied a solid 2.2 WAR when adjusted for park effects.
J.J Cron has been mashing so far this season with a .973 OPS, 8 homers and 21 RBI. Grichuk is also looking like a strong trade addition, batting .338/.389/.523 with three homers and 14 RBI.
The Rockies are up a significant amount on the money line as they continue to exceed expectations while going an even 11-11 on the run line. Overs are 11-11 for the Rockies, with 6 of their last 7 games going over the betting total.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Reds are 5-9 ATS on the road
- Reds O/U 6-7-1 on the road
- Rockies are 8-5 ATS at home
- Rockies O/U are 6-7 at home
Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies MLB Prediction:
Colorado is always tough to beat at home, including posting a 9-4 mark at Coors Field to begin 2022, and continues to comfortably overperform projections from the preseason.
While Washington had a great weekend that’s unlikely to continue based on what we saw from the team before then, and this bad Nationals pitching staff won’t hold up in a tough environment.
Give me the Rockies offense in this one to open enough a gap and cover this run line at home.
