Monday was a holiday here in the United States, as we all celebrated Labor Day and had an extended weekend! Yay!
Ironic, right? Labor Day and the significance of the holiday? Well, the Yankees literally took the day off too because work was something they certainly are NOT GUILTY of doing on Monday, September 6, 2021. So, we move to Tuesday and maybe inspiration will come to the NY Yankee locker room one day, but that day is not now.
Aaron Boone supposedly had just about all of the pieces in a place he could hope for this past week. Everyone was getting healthy and the bats were heating up towards a playoff race in September. After losing 2 of 3 to the ORIOLES this past weekend, a game 1 loss in the first of 4 against the Jays might not support the Yankees’ post-season chances. The games are dwindling as the days go by and cooling off now is definitely not going to work out well for anyone down the stretch.
The Jays have won 5 in a row and 8 of their last 9 games. Coming into Yankee Stadium on Monday to start a 4 game set suits them just fine. Game 1 in the books as an 8 – 0 thumping of the Yanks, Toronto eyes their own post-season position prospects with every win they pocket.
Blue Jays
The Jays have it all happening at the right time of the year, as 8 wins in their last 9 games has the playoff battle tightening up. The Yanks and Jays are only 4 games apart in the loss column with the Red Sox battling in a series with the Rays as we speak.
If you caught the Monday affair, there was good news and some bad news that came from the 8 – 0 win over the Yanks. George Springer fouled a ball off what seemed his knee, and he could likely be sitting out of the game on Tuesday. Obviously, we will all find out the severity of the incident as the news comes in but watching it sure looked painful. I was sitting here going… OWWWW that shit huuurts!! LoL
So, keep an eye out for Springer’s availability after he was leading off as the DH in the Monday affair.
If chic’s dig the long ball, then all the ladies are dropping like flies when the Jays come to town. The Canadian Bombers have smashed a league-leading 210 round-trippers in 2021 after Monday. The Jays were mashing the ball again and it really all came to a head when they batted around the lineup in the ninth inning. They put a big stamp on the 8 – 0 win and It was 3 – 0 going to the 9th in a seemingly close game.
Teoscar Hernandez went boom to start off the inning, and Marcus Semien blasted a granny to get the Yankee crowd to start heading to the exits.
Hyun Jin Ryu was fantastic going 6 solid with 6 Ks and 0 BBs only allowing 3 total hits.
The Jays only tallied 7 hits but 4 HR accounted for almost all of the damage on Monday.
Steven Matz will take the bump on Tuesday to follow up the 8 – 0 win in game 1 of the 4 game series. Matz has hurled 123 innings and is 10 – 7 on the season with an ERA of 3.80. Matz has been unable to find a decision in his last 3 outings despite only allowing a total of 4 earned runs over that span.
NY Yankees
The Yanks’ ace Gerritt Cole toes the slab on Tuesday, and the team hopes he comes up with a memorable outing. Why is that? Well, no one is hitting and if he struggles even a little bit the Jays will keep their foot on the gas.
Cole has faced the Jays 3 times in 2021 but the last time he saw them was in June. Two May starts led to a 1 – 1 split but his June start against Toronto was stellar. Cole ended the game with 8 IP in a 3 – 2 win although both runs came from HRs allowed.
Cole is 4 – 0 in his last 4 starts and his last start against the Angels was arguably his best outing. Cole struck out 15 Angels and walked none bringing his season ERA down to 2.73.
Going back to Monday’s game, I just threw up a little. Aaron Boone brought in Brooks Kriske in a 3 – 0 game to close out the 9th inning. He was hopeful to get the Yanks back up only down 3 – 0 with a chance to save his bullpen.
HE <<< Boone? Blew that call and before you knew it was watching a 3 – 0 ballgame go to 4 and then 8 – 0 in an instant.
Kriske gave up a lead-off HR to Teoscar Hernandez to make it 4- 0 and then the wheels fell off even further.
Kriske walked Randal Grichuk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and eventually loaded the bases after picking up two outs. Marcus Semien was having no more of it, blasted a granny into the left-field stands to make it 8 – 0, and the fat lady she was a screamin’!
Now, after that performance, the Yanks are sitting as favorites of -175 because of Cole being on the mound. That is the simple reason as to why because the Yankee bats are ice cold at the moment.
Joey Gallo? It’s GOLDEN
That dude stinks and went 0 – 4 with 4 Ks on Monday ^^^ ^^^
You see it, it is golden and it is ugly and now Joey Gallo is batting about .195. Under the Mendoza line and a complete waste of time for the Yanks who needed a bat down the stretch. Gallo is 2 for his 32 and wait, I already said it… STINKS!
The Judge is struggling again to find his bat and Stanton sets his mind to swing and you could throw that thing to the subway and he will chase it!
The 3 big errors on the infield on Monday sure didn’t make matters any easier and all 3 of them were just simple plays. Gio Urshela made two errors on the afternoon and each was costly as simple hops right to his glove were mishandled.
Jameson Taillon threw 94 pitches and really didn’t look like he had his stuff early in the game giving up back-to-back HRs to Semien and Vlad in the 1st inning. He did only surrender 3 ER on 3 hits, however, but he got no run support to speak of at all.
The line setters are bat-shit crazy offering a -175 for the Yankees in this affair. Even with Cole on the bump, he cannot hit, and either can anyone in his dugout.
