Toronto has been waiting all season to get a series against the O’s to boost their record and their confidence. They really need it right now too after getting swept by the Yankees.
Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto has slipped under .500 for the first time in a while after getting swept by the Yankees. It was not a great series. The bats were a little more quiet than usual and the Jays had problems in relief and on defense.
Robbie Ray has been mostly excellent for Toronto this season. With a little better luck he probably has eight wins instead of four. He should be able to have success against a Baltimore lineup that does not have many trouble spots.
Nothing is going to be easy for the Jays until the bullpen settles. Injuries have hurt the group but so has the fact that Rafael Dolis and Tyler Chatwood have just lost the plate for weeks at a time. And now Dolis might hurt. They need the bats to wake up and they should this weekend.
The Rays do not have a pitcher listed for this contest, but given how robust their overall pitching staff is, I am confident they will put someone out there who can have success against this Orioles batting lineup.
Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore is in last place and has lost eight in a row so they might just be a punching bag for the Jays this weekend. With John Means hurt the pitching has become a huge question mark as is the lineup after a top two of Cedric Mullins and Trey Mancini.
Bruce Zimmermann is a lefty and that is not a good thing to be against the Jays, who are loaded with quality right-handed hitters. He was terrible early but has been much better of late so at least he has that going for him.
The Orioles bullpen is definitely no sure thing either so even if the Orioles get a lead the Jays have a great chance to comeback in Baltimore over the weekend.
