Blue Jays vs. Athletics Gameday
The Toronto Blue Jays open a three-game series against the Athletics on Monday night at Sutter Health Park. Toronto enters at 72-72 and sits one game behind Cleveland for the final AL wild-card spot, while the Athletics are 57-87 and fourth in the AL West. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 PM ET.
Toronto arrives in Sacramento having won seven of its last 10 games despite Sunday’s loss.
The Blue Jays had their four-game winning streak snapped with a 6-1 loss to Kansas City on Sunday. Toronto still won two of three against the Royals after taking three of four from Cleveland. That recent surge has kept the Blue Jays firmly involved in the AL wild-card race.
The Athletics also had some momentum interrupted Sunday.
Oakland won the first three games of its weekend series in Seattle before being shut out 2-0 in the finale. The Athletics managed only one hit in that loss, but their three victories against the Mariners showed they can still be dangerous despite their overall record.
Toronto swept the first three meetings between these teams in March. The Blue Jays won those games 3-2, 8-7 in 11 innings and 5-2, giving them an opportunity to extend that season-series advantage Monday.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Athletics Odds & Last 5
Toronto enters Monday as a sizable road favorite, with the Blue Jays priced around -200 on the moneyline. The Athletics are around +170, while Toronto is laying 1.5 runs on the run line. The total is set at 8.5 runs for the series opener.
The Blue Jays have won seven of their last 10 games.
Toronto’s four-game winning streak ended Sunday with a 6-1 loss in Kansas City, but the club had scored 30 runs during the four victories leading into that defeat. The Blue Jays now continue their road trip with three games in Sacramento.
Oakland had won four straight before Sunday’s shutout loss in Seattle.
The Athletics took three of four from the Mariners after closing their previous series with a 9-2 victory over Texas. Their return home is significant because Oakland is only 25-44 at Sutter Health Park this season. Toronto has already won all three head-to-head meetings in 2026.
Athletics Stats
The Athletics have remained competitive offensively despite their 57-87 record. Oakland is batting around .247 with a .320 on-base percentage and has hit 174 home runs this season. That power gives the lineup enough punch to make pitchers pay for mistakes.
The larger problem has been preventing runs.
Oakland’s pitching staff has carried one of the highest ERAs in baseball throughout the season. The rotation also took another hit when J.T. Ginn was placed on the injured list with a right elbow impingement. That leaves the Athletics leaning on other arms during the final weeks.
The offense still has several hitters capable of doing damage.
Shea Langeliers leads the club with 23 home runs but is currently on the injured list. Nick Kurtz has added 21 homers with a .256 batting average, while Lawrence Butler remains another important piece of the lineup. Oakland’s offense will face a difficult assignment against Dylan Cease.

Blue Jays Stats
Toronto has climbed back to .500 after spending much of the season trying to make up ground. The Blue Jays are batting .248 as a team with a .309 on-base percentage and .382 slugging percentage. Their recent surge has also pushed them back into the AL wild-card conversation.
The pitching staff has given Toronto a better foundation.
The Blue Jays have posted an ERA around 3.90 while limiting opponents to fewer hits than many clubs around the league. Toronto’s staff has also allowed fewer home runs than most teams, an important strength heading into a matchup against an Oakland lineup with legitimate power.
Kazuma Okamoto has supplied much of Toronto’s home-run production this season.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. enters the series batting .259, while Ernie Clement has continued to provide steady production throughout the year. Toronto was held to one run Sunday, but the offense had scored at least four runs in each of its previous four games.

Blue Jays vs. Athletics Pitching Matchup
Dylan Cease gets the ball for Toronto after putting together one of the strongest seasons of his career. The right-hander is 10-5 with a 2.25 ERA and has piled up 221 strikeouts. His ability to miss bats gives Toronto a substantial weapon in the series opener.
Cease has also done a good job limiting traffic.
His WHIP sits at 1.04, complementing the strikeout numbers and giving opponents fewer opportunities to build innings. He also saw this Oakland lineup in his Blue Jays debut in March, striking out 12 over 5.1 innings in Toronto’s 8-7 extra-inning victory.
Jacob Lopez will counter for the Athletics.
The left-hander enters at 6-4 with a 4.71 ERA across 23 appearances, including 20 starts. Lopez has recorded 103 strikeouts over 105 innings, but 52 walks have contributed to a 1.46 WHIP. Keeping Toronto off the bases will be a major part of his assignment Monday.
Cease owns the stronger season profile entering this matchup.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Athletics bottom line: Toronto brings the stronger starting-pitching matchup into Sacramento, while Oakland looks to rediscover the offense that fueled its recent winning streak.

Blue Jays Athletics Free Pick: Blue Jays RL -1.5
Here is my Blue Jays Athletics free pick:
Toronto laying 1.5 runs is where I’m going in this series opener. The Blue Jays had a four-game winning streak snapped Sunday, but they still arrive in Sacramento having won seven of their last 10. I like their chances to bounce back behind Dylan Cease.
Cease is the biggest reason I’m willing to give the extra run. His swing-and-miss stuff gives him a strong matchup against an Athletics club that managed one hit in Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Seattle.
Oakland had been playing well before that shutout, winning the first three games of its Seattle series. That keeps me from treating this as an automatic fade based on the A’s record.
This is a spot where Toronto’s edge on the mound is worth paying for.
Cease gives Toronto the kind of starting-pitching edge I want when laying 1.5 runs.
The Blue Jays have already beaten the Athletics three times this season. Two were one-run games, but Toronto also won the finale 5-2, and I think Cease gives them a better chance to create that separation again.
The A’s return home after their four-game winning streak ended, while Toronto remains in the AL wild-card race. With the better starter carrying the workload, my MLB betting system says to take the Jays -1.5.
