Chicago might still be rocking after last night.
The Cubs grabbed a 2-1 series lead as they showcased their power with 6 home runs in an 8-6 win over St. Louis in Game 3.
The Cardinals now will turn to John Lackey in desperation as they try to stave off elimination.
The Cardinals may have left Michael Wacha in one too many batters on Monday night. Wacha fell behind Kris Bryant 3-0, battled back to a 3-2 count, but threw his 3rd straight fastball to Bryant.
The ball took no time to land in the left field bleachers as it send Wrigley Field into pandemonium as they grabbed a 4-2 lead.
After cutting the lead to 5-4 behind Jason Heyward’s 2 run homer, Adam Wainwright came out of the bullpen to try and lock things down. He followed in Wacha’s footsteps as Jorge Soler blasted a 2 run homer to put the game away.
St. Louis will turn to Game 1 winner, John Lackey, in hopes of forcing a Game 5.
Lackey was absolutely dominant in Game 1 as he allowed just 2 hits in 7.2 innings of work. The scheduled starter here, Lance Lynn, will be up and ready in the bullpen incase Lackey is affected by his short rest.
Lackey was 2-0 with an ERA of only 1.25 in 2 regular season starts against the Cubs.
The sounds echoing from Wrigley Field last night could probably be heard world wide. The Cubs fans got curtain call after curtain call as they saw their team blast 6 home runs in the win.
Chicago got 2 run home runs from Kris Bryant and Jorge Soler to push the Cubs’ lead to 2 and then 3, respectively.
They also got solo shots from Starlin Castro, Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber. The Wrigley Field wind had some to do with that as it started blowing out in about the 5th inning of the Game 3 Monday night.
Chicago will go with Jason Hammel as they try to clinch the NLDS and schedule a date with either the Mets or Dodgers.
Hammel won 5 of his 8 starts following the all star break, but also posted a 5.10 ERA during that span.
He went 1-1 with an ERA of 5.73 against the Cardinals this season and has been held winless in his last 3 postseason starts.
Jorge Soler is 4-for-4 with 2 homers, 1 double and 5 walks in the series.
