The thriving St. Louis Cardinals head to San Diego to battle the Padres in the first of a three-game NL showdown on Saturday night.
The Cards will have Adam Wainwright on the mound. The Padres continue to benefit from terrific pitching and will reply with Chris Paddack.
The Padres eliminated the Cards in last year’s Wildcard series.
St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis continues to shine. They have won five out of their last six games overall and can win games behind their offense or pitching. The Cards swept the Rockies last weekend and won two of three games over the Brewers this week.
Paul Goldschmidt features a stellar .957 OPS on the month. The veteran first baseman is having a bit of an inconsistent season but is one of the game’s best-run producers. Goldy has now accumulated 22 RBI’s on the season.
Veteran Ace Adam Wainwright gets the start Saturday but it off to a slow start this season. He is just 2-3 with a 3.80 ERA.
San Diego Padres
San Diego is dealing with COVID protocol. Fernando Tatis Jr. has landed on the IL and will be out for this series. Wil Myers is also on the IL with a positive test. Jurickson Profar and Eric Hosmer did not play Thursday due to contract tracing and could return.
Watch for Jake Cronenworth who continues to be a tough out, collecting ten base hits in his last seven games. The 27-year old second baseman now has 11 RBI’s and a solid .764 OPS on the season.
San Diego is scoring an average of 4.05 runs per game, ranking them 21st in the Major Leagues. The pitching staff leads the big leagues with a 2.71 team ERA.
Chris Paddack will look to turn his fortunes around Saturday as the right hander is just 1-4 on the year with a less than stellar 4.78 ERA.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

Free St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres MLB Prediction:
This could be a tough series for the Padres. They are playing without Fernando Tatis Jr. and Wil Myers, while Eric Hosmer and Jurickson Profar are questionable. The Cardinals continue to win games, recording the victory in five out of their last six clashes overall.
Paddack has not looked good at all this season for San Diego and while Wainwright hasn’t either for St. Louis, he is still the more qualified and reliable pitcher in this one. I’m taking the Cardinals again.
