The line for Monday’s Cardinals at Brewers tilt seems really skewed with Milwaukee a -220 favorite. Sure the Brewers are at home, but they’re actually a better road team (42-32, 49-26) and really have nothing to play for with a playoff berth clinched and an 11.5 game lead in the NL Central.
St. Louis has incredible value at +180 considering they are riding an 8-game win streak and need these W’s to hold on to a 3-game lead for the 2nd wild card spot in the NL. The Brewers would seem to have the pitching edge, but these Redbird bats are on fire lately.
St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis is playing the kind of offense that transcends pitching matchups right now. They’ve scored 6+ runs in 6 of the 8 wins during their current streak, and just wrapped up a home sweep of the Padres where they outscored them 19 to 11 in three games.
The last time the Cardinals went on the road they swept the Mets by a combined score of 25-10 so this team is hitting no matter where they go. Paul Goldschmidt has been a big force behind this surge, hitting .410 with a .522 OBP over the past week.
Goldy has gotten plenty of help on offense too though, with Tyler O’Neill hitting 3 HR in his last five games. The Brewers have a tough starter on Monday in Freddy Peralta, but Goldschmidt is 6 for 11 (.545) with 2 HR and Nolan Arenado has 2 HR in 13 career AB vs. the Milwaukee starter.
Jake Woodford should take it as an insult that the Cardinals are +180 underdogs in his start. The right-hander is making just his 6th start and doesn’t go incredibly deep pitching as a reliever most of the season, but he’s growing into the role with 3 ER allowed over his last 13.1 IP.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers magic number is three, and since they are playing the 2nd place Cardinals clinching the division could come as soon as Tuesday night with two wins. In that regard Milwaukee does have some incentive to win on Monday, but they also have Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff lined up to pitch this series – and have 13 games left in the season.
Milwaukee is still a pretty risky play at -220 considering they lost to the Cubs on Sunday after beating Chicago 11 straight times this season. The Brewers bullpen had a rare collapse on Sunday giving up 5 runs in the 8th inning. Milwaukee also fell 4-1 to Detroit last week with Woodruff on the mound and as -228 favorites.
The Brewers could also shut down the Cardinals on Monday with Peralta on the mound. He’s allowed just 1 ER over his last two starts, and 2 ER or less in 6 of the last 8. Peralta does have a 5.73 ERA in three starts vs. St. Louis this season though.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

Free St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers MLB Prediction:
There is very little value on the Brewers at -210 but that seems to be where the money is at after opening at -182. It’s alright to take chances on a +180 underdog who happens to be on an 8-game win streak and needs every victory to hold on to their wild card spot.
Peralta’s two worst starts since the end of July have come against this Cardinals team, giving up 7 ER over consecutive outings including a 15-4 St. Louis win in Milwaukee on September 3rd.
