Thanks to a little slippage the Cards have the Pirates nipping at their heels.
This series may be on the road and the All-Star break may be imminent but the way things are shaping up in the Central they cannot afford too many lapses.

St. Louis dropped three of four to Pittsburgh at home to start the week. Are they looking ahead, if so they might not like what they see over the weekend.
Sometimes I don’t like what I see with this club. The numbers look good on paper but without those star quality players sometimes it seems like the other shoe is about to drop.
Can they really maintain being fourth in the league in runs with that lineup?
Carlos Martinez is having a good season, leading the team in ERA. It seems he might be slowing things down a bit, becoming less concerned with blowing the ball by hitters than just getting them out.
His hit rate is way down as are his strikeouts. He was a true phenom coming up and it looks like he is settling into becoming a good but not great pitcher. His best outing of the season was at Milwaukee in May.
Milwaukee Brewers
Last weekend the Brew Crew were swept by the Cardinals so you can bet they are looking to even things up a little. No it won’t quite get them into the race but they can take some measure from damaging the opportunity of a rival.
I thought Ryan Braun was done but he is enjoying a renaissance season. he and Jonathan Lucroy both. Especially Lucroy will be of interest to other teams.
Chase Anderson is not enjoying a good first season in Milwaukee. He is below average at home and a complete tire fire on the road so if you are trying to sort him out this could be a spot.
He has faced STL twice this season, one good outing in April and one bad one last week, both on the road. I am not sure he is a guy you really want to get behind, especially with an offense that is sporadic.
