A NL Central weekend showdown will start on Thursday between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Woodruff threw five shutout innings, Omar Narváez homered, and the Milwaukee Brewers won their first home game of the season with a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
Mikolas carried a one-hitter into the seventh inning and Tommy Edman and Nolan Arenado each homered as the Cardinals rolled to a 10-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
St. Louis Cardinals
This St. Louis team is proving they can thump at the plate. But then again, they’ve only run into the Kansas City Royals once and Pittsburgh Pirates the other three times. Smacking those pitches is a completely different ballgame than staring down two-time MLB All-Star pitcher Brandon Woodruff on the road and the rest of the Brewers rotation.
The return of Albert Pujols to St. Louis has garnered much attention; however, it is their acquisition from last offseason that has gotten off to the hottest start. Nolan Arenado is hitting .438 with three homers and nine RBIs through four games.
However, the confidence is flowing right now for the Cardinals with the team averaging the most home runs per game in MLB. They’re flashing a .271 batting average and .874 OPS on the season so far, along with the second-most runs (6.25) per game.
Milwaukee Brewers
After dropping their opening series on the road in Chicago the Brewers bounced back with a series win in Baltimore to sit at even on the season. Milwaukee will get to open their 2022 campaign at home with a big NL Central matchup against St. Louis.
Milwaukee has not had a strong start to their season offensively. They’ve already been shut out twice this season in meetings with the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs. Granted, they started to get their act together in their last two wins over the Orioles, but now, they’ll have to deal with the 40-and-strong arm of Adam Wainwright.
First Baseman Rowdy Tellez leads the way for the team so far with a .313 average and a team high 4 RBI’s. Andrew McCutchen has a sturdy spot as the team’s full-time DH and is hitting .250 on 24 AB’s.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Cardinals O/U are 4-1-1 this season
- Cardinals are 4-2 ATS this season
- Brewers O/U are 3-3-2 this season
- Brewers are 4-4 ATS this season
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers MLB Prediction:
St. Louis has a little bit more firepower in its lineup, but I like the Brewers to win Saturday night’s game at home. Houser was lights out against the Cardinals last year, posting a 0.36 ERA in 25 innings of work. He was responsible for snapping the Cardinals’ 17-game winning streak last September.
Meanwhile, Matz was atrocious in his St. Louis debut and is dealing with a blister heading into this start. I do not have faith that he is going to bounce back less than one week later, especially with it being a start on the road.
Give me the Brewers to bounce back at home on Saturday.
