St. Louis Cardinals
The Red Birds offense was shut down on Friday as Yu Darvish continues his campaign for the 2020 Cy young. Cardinals only managed one run on a Matt Carpenter home run and only got one other hit in the game.
As a team, the Cardinals score 4.38 runs per game which is ranked 20th in the league. Paul Goldschmidt has been quiet since his hot start but is still hitting a .346 clip on the year. He ranks third on the team with three home runs and fourth on the team for RBI’s with 11.
Cardinals will have third-year starter Dakota Hudson on the rubber for them in this one. Hudson is 1-2 on the year with a 2.77 ERA in five starts this year.
Chicago Cubs
Wilson Contreras drove in all four runs for the Cubs on Friday night after going 3-4 against the Cardinals pitching staff.
Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, and Kris Bryant have yet to break out on the season and that is really scary for the rest of the league because once they figure it out the Cubs could be untouchable. Cubbies are getting key contributions from their platoon players to keep them at the top of the NL Central. As a team, Chicago is averaging 4.82 runs per game which is ranked 11th in the league.
